John remained seated with his eyes closed but he moved his hand to his Eyasluna. He knew this person. And the last time he saw them was not a good memory.
"So... How is the Dark? Is it as cold as I imagine it?"
This Titan was about to be executed the last time he saw him. Only for the reason he had Red Death.
In that moment he turned his back on the Light, and accepted the Dark. He walked through the portal that would eventually lead to his own undoing.
It's not as if John could blame him. It made sense. The Vanguard hunting him like a dog. Beating him. Zavala was cruel. He hid it beneath a layer of honor and discipline. But it was there.
John rose to his feet slowly and tightened the grip on his cannon. He was still facing the sea but he was ready.
"Are we going to be civil about this or are you already hungry for Light?"

another voice spoke robotic obviously a Exo "No John he isn't, he still fights for the light, trust me when I say he won't turn so easily and He is very well aware he should of headed your warning about the darkness. Hes afraid and the darkness is making him look like hell"

Edited by cloudless9: 1/4/2016 2:08:27 AMJohn turned around and saw him. The Titan looked the same but John could feel his aura. How it was tainted. He felt this before. This feeling of impurity. And last time it nearly killed him. The other set of footsteps belonged to a Warlock. He was unfamiliar but his voice was... A Ghost... His name was... "Dency... I'm honestly surprised the Knights didn't tear you apart at the seams. And is what he says true, Eclipse? Are you still with us?" He had no reason to distrust them. Buy no reason to trust them either. A Guardian falling from grace tends to drag others down with him. It was a sad reality but a true one. John holstered his weapon. He turned out to sea for a moment before looking back at them. One, a Guardian who abandoned the Light and the other an AI stuck in an Exo's body.

Dency sets his Monte Carlo on his back and removes his helmet reveling a smiling bright white exo head with a blue mouth glow only know to ghost "Well John I have my master and mentor who keep me alive and I won't Leave Eclipse behind. Eclipse kept his helmet on and set his red death on his back and looked to the ground "It keeps telling me All my friends will turn on me, that my lovers will do the same. That I'm nothing without it."

"We all know what it speaks is only lies. But hearing it day after day is why they go Dark. It's not a matter of if. It's a matter of when" John knew what Eclipse was going through. The Darkness was testing his sanity. Hammering away ceaselessly day after day. The voices would only get louder. And angrier. And the more you said no the more they snapped. Dency would slow the process immensely. But he could not stop it. No one could. No magic in the world had enough power to break the Darkness' hold. "I admire your resolve Dency but you know what will happen when he turns Dark. He will turn on you. He will turn on us all" John looked at Eclipse. He felt no pity. No need to grieve him. He chose this path. And he knows the price. He just felt a ping of sadness. Of remorse. Maybe he could have defeated the Knights. Closed the portal. And Eclipse would still be of the Light. "Eclipse... I don't know how much time you have. And I can't tell you that you can pull out of this. But you are still sane now. And I recommend you see Reya before you lose yourself. She would want to see you"
-
Dencys face twist to a face of anger at john and he steps inches away from him "I see it on your face john. Let's get one thing straight. Eclipse will not give up and he will not- He is cut off by Eclipse's hand on his shoulder as he pushes Drncy aside standing inches from john "I would see myself dead before I turned on those I cared about. And reya? She wants me dead. She hates me to a core believes what the vanguard does. I won't even show you what I look like now from when you last saw me"
-
John did not even blink when Dency stood his ground. He had the same sad look on his face. One that spoke volumes of what he knew. He looked at Eclipse and spoke once more. "She may not hate you as much as you would think. And what does it matter? You're a dead man walking at this point." He let that hang in the air for a moment before speaking again. "I know you would never turn against those you love. But with the Darkness, you may as well be dead. It will not only consume your light but all of you. Your form, your mind, your personality, your memory, all of it. You won't be you. Same flesh same space but it won't be you" The reality was harsh. It was cruel and unfair. But it was true. It is said that before it all began, Dregen Yor first drank the Light of his own Ghost. And he was not the only one. "Know this, both of you. There is no way I know of out. And I have lived much longer than most. I've seen this happen dozens of times. To good people. But they never came back. No one does."
-
Dency is angry as this point and raises his voice "And what if he's the exception! What i! He tamed the red death with very little work he may be drained but him giving up is somthing he won't do! Eclipse looked to Dency then back at john "I have a lover angel she's a warlock born of pure light if you won't help she will"
-
John looked at Dency with an odd expression. Like he was looking at a small child who believed their father could do the impossible. "Guardians stronger than him fell. The greater the Light the easier they become to seduce." He took out the Fallen device again and looked at it for a second. Then returned it to his belt. "I would help if there was hope. But there is none. If you literally turn your back to the Traveler, I can do nothing. No one can. I say that you do whatever you want to or need to and then jump into the nearest abyss." Maybe he was being harsh but it was all he could do. He knew Eclipse was doomed. And he couldn't help him. Only if the Traveler herself woke may he have a chance. "I would end it before it begins to destroy you. The Dark is relentless and the pain will be unbearable. And that pain is the sign that the end of you has arrived. It is your Light being eaten from within you. Spare yourself. Go out on your terms"
-
Dency raises his hand into a fist and punches John across the face a few times before watching the result "How bout you stop telling my master to kill himself"
-
John was hunched over, cupped his split lip. Yet his expression did not change. His attitude was the same calm, collected self. He turned once more to Eclipse "Least you have a meal when you finally go off the deep end" He spit out blood and eyed the Warlock. It was an unmistakable look. One of not anger but hunger. He saw the aura burn around him, the Light was coiled around the Exo like a serpent, giving it life and power. He felt the weight of his dying Ghost in his satchel, and he felt the hunger claw to him. A voice spoke in his head. "Take it. Take what you need to restore her. He's doomed but she may still live. But you need more Light." The voice was mostly quiet but he still eyed the previous Ghost. Who deserved the Light more? One who would waste it by staying near an agent of Darkness or someone who has walked in the Light for centuries? He shook his head to clear his thoughts but the hunger still remained. "When Eclipse is ripping you open and drinking your Light like some sweet nectar, remember that you could have avoided this." He straightened up again but his wounds did not heal. Normally, a Ghost would have restored him but circumstances prevented that.

Eclipse looked over john "You're ghost let me see it"
-
John snapped to look at him and drew his fusion rifle, he held his aim steady. Did he know? How? Maybe he could smell her weakness. Who knows what strange abilities he has acquired through the Dark. John knew this wasn't the case, however he was not acting rationally. He needed to protect her. Get her help. The Aquilans would know someone. They would have to. He could save her. She wouldn't die. She can't. He lost to much already. "I won't let it happen again. Not again. This time I can save someone. Anyone. I don't want anyone else to die around me. I can save her. I can save her. I can. I will" Without realizing it, he began to voice his thoughts. His voice was unstable and his words were muddled. For the first time in years he was afraid. He feared losing her. So he would use his power and knowledge to save her. But he did not have near enough of either to do so. Eventually he stopped talking and slowly lowered his rifle. It dropped out his hands and he fell to his knees. Tears formed in his eyes and he pounded his fist on the ground again and again until his hand was bloody. After a while he just stopped and shifted to a sitting position. He slowly drew his Ghost, Averlia, out his satchel and gazed at it. The shell, comprised of pure Light, was now a crystal colored black. The eye was closed and she was not floating. To most it would seem like a dead Ghost but her initial spark was still active. "I don't know what's wrong with her. There was no event to trigger it. One minute she was fine and then she was... Like this"
-
Eclipse kneeled down unfazed by the fusion rifle that was aimed at him and held his hand out "Let me see her I wanna try somthing. I'll give her light from Dency but you have to trust me on this"
-
"If the problem was as simple as Light infusion, I'd be done already. I tried that. She stayed asleep." He fiddled with a small chunk of Plasteel on his chest, the burnt ends of Sapphire Wire crisscrossed inside of it. It was a reminder from a time long ago. So far, no other Hunters have thought to incorporate Plasteel into their gear. She was the only one... "I tried most of what I know but nothing seemed to be working. I was going to ask some old friends of mine if they knew anything." The Fallen device buzzed in his robes and an Elinski's voice chattered into it. "You could stay and meet them. Nice guys. Except for Haveruis. He's more than a little cranky"
-
Eclipse keeps his hand held out "Dency had the same problem I have one more idea I can try and do"
-
"Mind if I ask? If you haven't figured it out, I'm very protective of my Ghost" The crystalline shell was cold to the touch, like dry ice. But oddly enough it didn't feel like it was sapping heat. More rejection. "She isn't susceptible to any forms of high magic I know. I have no idea what the substance is but none of my Focial na Cruinne seem to have effect. I haven't encountered anything like it before" He handed the Ghost to Eclipse. "Just so you know, if I don't buy whatever you plan to do to her, I'll run you through with my sword and tear apart every one of your atoms. Just so we're clear"
-
Eclipse held up the ghost "I'm not using magic. When Dency bad thus happen he lived off my life forc, I shocked him with my striker fist And he would pop back up but in would loose a good bit of own life for him so that's the plan"
-
John couldn't believe what he was hearing. Maybe Titans weren't the brightest tools in the shed but they couldn't be THAT crazy, could they? "So, your plan. Is to punch my Ghost? I'm hearing this right. You want to punch her so that way you can infuse your life force?" John just sighed deeply and rubbed his temples. "This is what I have to deal with. No wonder I left the Tower. Honestly surprised I'm still sane"
-
Eclipse laughed lightly "No no no not punch your ghost I'll simply hold her between my hands and send sparks to her, these electric sparks will hold my life in tyem and with each spark that moves into her it will drain my life a little by little"
-
"And what makes you think that you have more electrical power than I? You must remember I am a Stormcaller. And a damn good one at that" Suddenly, a deafening horn blasted out from the open sea. A huge ship turned about a horn and was riding up to the coast where they were. Fallen symbols and insignia were present everywhere, not to mention the ship itself resembled a skiff and most of the crew were Vandals. With a few Captains amongst them. John did not bat an eye and instead waved. They dropped anchor about half a mile off shore and sent two small rafts towards them. "They got here sooner than I expected." He turned back to Eclipse. "Do whatever it is you plan to do. Odds are they want to give me a job"
-
Eclipse nodded And Takes the ghost into both his hands and sits down and crosses his legs He closes his eyes and Suddenly shocks Flow through his body to the ghost his life draining alittle bit each time he does and his life force along with the shock moves into the ghost
-
The shell did turn slightly brighter but the second he stopped it went down to dead and black once more. And no matter how much he did it, the Ghost would still not wake up. After a few minutes, the Vandals hit the shoreline and spread out, killing any Devils they saw. "It was a good attempt but I don't think she is waking. And it seems like my ride is getting impatient"
-
Eclipse's life force is nearly drained But he keeps trying at this point Electricity is flowing around him and into the ghost "No I'll get this" Dency looks at eclipse "Master your health is getting dangerously Low"
-
"Don't destroy yourself for her sake. I'll bring her back. And if anyone is sacrificing themselves to save her, it's someone who is at the end of his rope" John looked at the massive Fallen ship. He flexed his hand and felt slightly tired. Maybe his immortality had kept him preserved long enough. His Ghost was dormant. Maybe she should find a new Guardian. John looked back and saw Eclipse continue to flood his Light into Averlia. He made a quick grab for the Ghost and took it from him. "Enough. I don't need you to die. That's your own choice when you want that to happen. You are a Guardian still" He rubbed his fingers on the glossy black surface. He felt how it rejected his heat. How it wanted to stay quiet. "You can't sleep just yet. Not until I finally can drink myself to death" John placed one hand on his sword and gripped the handle tightly. His knuckles turned white from the cold. "I told you to go out on your terms. You decide when you die. Or it'll be decided for you. I chose inaction. And I still regret it" John stared off past the ship to the slightly churning waves beyond. "You know, I've been dead for about half a century now? But Death always robs me. He never follows through. And I always wake up"
-
Eclipse stood up and pulled his red death off his back "If you snatched somthing from mh hands again. I would of given her back to you, trust me I don't want your ghost but I know what it's like to nearly loosen one. Have it go quiet with no reason to wake up. And with death, I cheated it tank times as well, death gets me and he walks away every time. "
