So thought about the nine as being a little bit of everything we know in the destiny universe
One kell who abandoned his house
One cabal commander who left his fleet
One vex axis mind that went rogue
One hive servant that turned against the deep
An Exo who came from a nearby colony
A human left the city on an unknown journey
An awoken that left the reef, but not for the city
A ghost that learned to survive w/out the traveler
And finally, a disciple of Osiris/speaker that left the traveler/Osiris
And your theory?

This is where I lean as well. The Nine represent the nine sentient beings of the Destiny Universe. They are charged with keeping balance. With the almost destruction of humanity, the balance was disturbed and Xur was sent to assist. I would disagree we have met them all. I count Human, Awoken, Hive, Fallen, Cabal and Vex. I assume we will meet the the Tiger people mentioned in the Festival and add them to the list.
