Creationists often dismiss evolution for making humans seem like just another animal. Are we, or is there some greater meaning? Is it our ability to communicate via organized language, our ability to use tools, our sense of morality, our connection to some higher deity, or just simply the fact that we are smarter than animals are?
I personally believe that the only thing breaking us apart from other animals is our superior intelligence. Everything in my list sprouts out from that intelligence. Language, tools, morality, religion, all stem from human intellect and were created by humans to serve a purpose.
Edited by Parazrael: 12/17/2015 3:24:46 AM>Primates use rocks/sticks as tools. >Dolphin's have a language that is intelligent. >Morality is found in a variety of animal species. >The existence of a higher deity is unproven. >The human mind's natural tendency to be religious is now known to have been an evolved trait that helped bring together early tribes of prehistoric humans, not unlike how wolves instinctually form packs. Human tribes with a common mythology and belief system were more likely to stick together and survive than others, and religious humans soon became the norm. Additionally, many modern-day people who suffer from temporal lobe epilepsy tend to become extremely religious and occasionally claim to have a special link to God, similar to prophets from the early days of religion. The obvious conclusion is that the religions that we know are constructs of the human mind that are linked to our biology. Religion is just another adaptation, and could very well be found in other animals. So no, we're not special from a biological standpoint. However, we are overall the most successful species on our planet, and are unique in that we have the luxury to ponder our own existence.

We are animals. People have just forgotten that due to modern civilizations cutting us off from the natural world and bombarding us with consumer culture. Why do you think we treat the natural world so poorly? We are fundamentally disconnected from it and need to realize that we are simply animals, very intelligent animals, but animals nonetheless.

Animals don't kill each other over a 2000 year old book

No such things as animals, no such things as humans. We just happened to be smart enough to give ourselves a title. We are legit the same as animals just we are smart enough to tell the difference...

Humans are animals.

Our inferiority in nearly every aspect except brainpower. We're a pretty physically wimpy species.

Humans -make dank memes -DJ Khaled -Murder each other -Talk Monkeys -no dank memes in sight -no DJ Khaled -work together like fgts -don't talk How can you say that we evolved from something like that?

I agree that our intelligence is the only thing keeping us in the spotlight. Opposable thumbs to use tools doesn't hurt either.
-
We have opposable thumbs Bam
-
Nothing separates us we are animals.
-
The ability to make a conscious decision and reason why we did it
-
Nothing tbh

I've heard that before. It's quite telling of their attitude towards animals.
-
Definition of animal: a living organism which feeds on organic matter, typically having specialized sense organs and nervous system and able to respond rapidly to stimuli. By definition we are animals.

Love sets us apart. It drives some to do wondrous things, but it also fills us with hate and greed, and makes us do horrific things.
-
We kill for sport.

I'd say it's a couple of things firstly our more advanced brains leading towards a higher intelligence and the ability to make a decision that isn't hard wired like instinct which is what animals react on. Secondly our bodies we may not be the toughest but our evolutionary advantages compared to many other species are quite the boon for us. Opposable thumbs for tool usage. Back up organs such as us having two lungs ,kidneys, testicles, ovaries and a regenerative liver helps. Also our bipedal frame allowing for advantageous field of vision. Personally I don't believe we are special are unique I don't see any signs of a 'creator' having created us we aren't made from anything special in fact everything we are made from is in abundance throughout the Universe there's no divine spark no separable unique isotope that shows any divine connection. In essence the only difference between a living human and a dead one is an bio electrical signal running from the brain to the nervous system so of we are some how special it's merely the fact that we exist ombré first place.

Thumbs. Intelligence. Retardedness

(Relatively) Advanced civilization sets us apart, but we're still animals
