I was injured...BAD. I was six miles into my tempo run with six miles left, and my ankles started to hurt badly out of nowhere. I had to stop and turn to walk back. On my way back, it started to get dark and I could barely see. Somewhere along the way back, I bumped into a stranger, a man. He was a tall African American man, with a business suit and tie on, and he was carrying a briefcase with a yellow smilely on it. I told him I was sorry for bumping into him, and he grabbed my shoulders and kneeled down to my height. He told me it was okay, and then he tilted his head and asked me what was wrong. Me, being surprised he knew I felt bad, took awhile to answer. I came out with "I'm trying to get over someone, and it's not going well sir." He looked at me and sighed a big sigh, then he pat me on the back and asked if that was all. I told him I was injured somehow, and he laughed and told me that pain was only temporary. I laughed because that's my motto...Little did I know I was not following it that night.
He pat my back again and told me to look at him. So I did, and stared into his deep blue eyes. He said that it was alright to feel sad after losing someone, but to not let my mind wonder on thinking about them. Said I would only destroy myself. He said there was many fish in the sea, and that maybe that one was not for me. I started back with "But I know she-" and he stopped me and told me that I have a life of people ahead of me that want me. I looked down at the ground and said "Yeah, I know, but I can't shake this feeling, ya know? I'm sorry for yelling back at you. It's not everyday a random stranger comes up to you and asks if you're alright." He laughed and said "Oh I know, I get that alot young man." He grabbed my head and lifted it up to face his eyes again and he said, "Look...Keep pushing yourself, never quit on your goals, keep going...You see that finish line there? That girl? That happy family life? It's calling to you...It's time for you to stop caving in on yourself and pick yourself back up and finish this race of life and love. I know you can do it!" He smiled and picked himself back up and started walking away, leaving me dumbfounded sitting like an idiot on the sidewalk. As he was leaving he turned around and asked what my zodiac sign was. "Libra," I said. He laughed and said "Hmph, that makes sense", then he turned away and continued on.
I walked away as well, but then I quickly turned back to say thank you, but he was gone. It's like he did not even exist. I turned back, and for some reason, my ankles did not hurt anymore. It was a miracle, I started running back home and I beat my tempo run pace by nearly 20 seconds.
Whoever that man was, or whatever he was...Thank you :)
