If you thought using the same 3-4 weapons every time was stupid, you could swap them out and use anything you wanted at any time. If others enjoyed using those weapons and didn't want to stop they were free to keep using them. Now there is no choice, people were forced to stop playing the game the way they wanted - not due to new gear being more fun or effective, but purely because Bungie said so. It's a shitty, lazy, arrogant way of progressing the game and you clowns defending less choice in Destiny deserve the end result.
If you thought using the same 3-4 weapons every time was stupid, you could swap them out and use anything you wanted at any time.
And you can still do that now, so I don't see your point. Progression like this is not unique to Destiny. Happens in true MMO's all the time, they are just emulating that aspect. More importantly the devs decided based on whatever metrics they used (and new non-bullet sponge boss design) that those weapons were OP and had to be left behind. I get that people are salty because they have to actually put out some effort and not just burn everything down instantly with 3 gallys or camp for an hour behind a stairwell with an ice breaker, but get over it already. Your win button is gone, deal with it.

  • Fatebringer was never a crutch for me, I did not need to use it at all, ever. But I did because it was fun, I liked the gun. A lot more so than any current raid gun, regardless of effectiveness, and I'm certain I'm not alone in that. Sunbreakers are op too. Should they relegate that subclass to irrelevance and sacrifice the amount of options we have? Nope, they should nerf it appropriately and leave it there for people to use, for the sake of variety. If any Year 1 weapons genuinely are too powerful then nerf them, bring them in line with everything else, but bring them back to relevant light levels. Nobody wins when half the content on the game is pointless, particularly within a game so sparse on content to begin with (an issue other mmo's don't have).

That's all reasonable. And a number of Y1 exotics are coming back next week, with more to come later, so it's happening, just more slowly than most people are willing to accept. Edit(x2): The Qullims is great, and the raid pulse with firefly was pretty damn fun... before I drunkenly infused it into my Red Death during IB by mistake, that is. (tequila gets you every time)

  • Tequila doesn't turn an MG into a primary weapon though...

  • Depends on how much you drink, lol. No, I mistakenly infused the raid pulse rifle, I guess I sorta said it backwards. Will edit.
