BF is a fun game. 8/10.
Is it casual? Of course it is. It's based off of the most casual franchise in cinema history. But casual doesn't mean bad. It means fun for everyone.
Don't listen to the people who say this game takes no skill. Where most games have their bullets instantly hit what you are shooting at, because the engine uses sprites, all the lasers in BF actually travel to their target. Because you need to think about travel time, you really need to aim at your target. Which takes skill.
Yes, BF doesn't have a campaign. But I would argue that, while BF2 officially had a campaign, it didn't have a story. There was no protagonist. No villain. No dialogue. The only voiced acting was the narrator who set up the level at the start and end of the mission. All the campaign was was just a bunch of Conquest maps strung together in chronological order of the movies. And, even then, the final mission was the battle of Hoth. They didn't even bother to complete the story.
Don't get me wrong. BF2 was a tone of fun. But a lot of the features was just recycled game modes. Campaign, galactic conquest and instant action was the same thing just with different modifiers. There were a few smaller modes in instant action but, as far as online multiplayer goes, everyone only gave a damn about conquest.
If BF2 came out today, I think it would get canned and trash reviews for its non existent and incomplete campaign and for its dependence on recycling the same two game modes over and over to give the illusion of content. It was a hell of a lot of fun to play back then. But back then, all gamers cared about was having fun. We didn't care about all this other BS.
