To Bungie:
We all know that you make games well, and the fact that time is money is obvious. So the whole exclusively timed content makes sense in not only the eyes of a ventured developer, but as well to the dollar sign eyed business man. So far the complaints have piled up on this subject, and being someone who has put much time and effort on both consoles into Destiny, I have a rather decent overall understanding and stake on this dispute.
One major thing I have noticed is that single handedly this game has had many of its fans console switch, either for the chance at the exclusive content, or for the simple fact that they wanted to group with friends. Main point being, this has potential to be another World of Warcraft like franchise. (Tickles the toes don't it? :P)
Well here are some Pros for timed exclusive content: (TEC? Make it a thing.)
- Bungie is handed huge wads of cash to invest in beautifully executed dialogue using the voices of high priced actors (thank you for Nathan Fillion btw).
- You actually get controversy that spills into anticipation and helps spread the word of Destiny. Allowing both a larger player base, and a spot in the lime light in unexpected places. Controversy is always good.
- In my personal sense, I dislike late maps, but love late loot. It's like Christmas or my birthday. Although it would be nice to offset the content release with the expansion by a fair margin.
And here are some of the Cons:
- Xbox players make the purchase delay, and knowing they will be waiting, spend more time with their exclusive *cough* Halo *cough* games instead of grinding unnecessarily in the meantime. This can be a drawback for sales, but maybe a projected buffer helps in those cold winter months.
-Infuriates players. Just hands down feels like the customer is being yo-yo'd by his/her decisions for a platform. It seems rather unfair to care so little about the little guy tossing pennies in that fountain just because there are 10 million other pennies to take his place. Consumers thrive on entertainment. They aren't going to stop consuming, but that doesn't mean it is okay to neglect them.
Over-all if it works for Bungie it will have to do, but what if you could make a fantastic revelation. Wow the industry. Allow all those who sign up at Bungie.net to copy or mimic their accounts cross console? Give every home 2 consoles and you have yourself the most business favorable cross compatability. How amazing could it be? It is more than possible and you know it.
Plus you could sell exclusive content to each company, and make the mirror of the content for each platform. For example a Boolean Gemini(if it were the Sony exclusive) on the PS4, would transfer to a Hard Light, or maybe even another Exotic SR on the Xbox One.
Of course it's possible. And the next influx of cashola should incorporate something of the like. This amount of jaw dropping capability would throw Bungie back on the front cover without even popping another expansion.
Please Bungie, I owned only Sony products until Halo Reach, which was a masterpiece in my eyes. I don't wanna look back now. For the sake of a happy consumer, and the sake of an even fatter paycheck, please do everyone this favor. I enjoy your games and even more so your imagination. Keep up the good work, just pull the brake on the Microsoft hate. :P
Thanks,
