Hey guys I felt intrigued to write a creepypasta about Destiny after reading about some creepy easter eggs and the "Reclaimed Dead" character! Tell me what you think of it!
Destiny: The Forbidden Bounty
While at The Tower, playing Destiny one day, I decided to finally try to finish a few of the Eris bounties. I had never really tried to finish those ones because I was too focused on exotic bounties, raid gear, and reaching level 34. So I “approached” Eris to see what bounties I had left. After selecting to bounties centered on killing Hive enemies, I backed out. I noticed that Eris did not warn me about the perils ahead, as she normally does anytime one talks to her, or receives a bounty from her. All she did was smile. I thought about how I love when Bungie adds small variations to the game to keep it fresh.
I then headed to the vault to select a few weapons I wanted to try to level up. Once out of the vault, I noticed a notification symbol over the postmaster’s office. I picked it up and, to my dismay, it was a bounty lead. Heading over to Bounties, I noticed that something was different about The Tower. It was not the happy, social place that it normally is. It was dead silent. No chatter from any of the characters, no commands from the loudspeaker, no whoosh of Guardians’ space ships entering or exiting, and, strangest of all, no other players. I recalled Eris’s creepy smile and the postmaster, who said nothing to me, and, being someone who is easily creeped out, felt a hot flash travel up my chest and into my neck. It didn’t help that it was two in the morning and I was playing with the lights off in my room.
The bounties bot was not there, which happens every so often in the game. I could still “approach” the screen, though. When I turned in my bounty lead, I was rewarded with a Vanguard bounty, the name: “J 9:21,” and the description: “don't let him in.” Again, something I had never seen before. This time, however, I did not admire the new content because I was convinced something was wrong with the game. Maybe it’s hacked. Maybe there is a strange glitch, I thought.
I walked from the bounty screen towards the gunsmith, hoping that he would say something to me, but about half way there, I was interrupted by a short, sinister, smirky little laugh that had a notorious voice. It was the voice of Master Rahool, the cryptarch. Not the type of thing I wanted to hear, as goosebumps broke out all over my arms. I turned towards Rahool from my position near the gunsmith and he was looking at me, with his neck turned back at an impossible angle, his bright yellow eyes pierced through me! Shocked, I could feel my hairs stand up as I took a step in his direction only for him to turn his head back straight, looking out at the empty, inaudible Tower courtyard. I instantly bashed the y button to return to orbit, but not before I caught the glare of Eris, who was also looking at me with that same, ominous smile! Okay I’ll just go to the moon and be reunited with normalcy, I thought, hoping I would find another online player there to point at, dance with, t-bag the ground with, or maybe do a public event with.
The traveling screen (warp tunnel) to the moon seemed normal and I was relieved, so I got up to turn on the light in my room. With my back turned from the screen, a loud static noise blasted from the TV. Gasping, I turned around and saw that the warp tunnel had turned dark red. Then, a somewhat familiar voice urgently warned me, “He is here… the reaper is here!” It was my ghost, but its voice sounded much older and not as energetic. The static blast then stopped and I spawned on the moon, with my heart still racing from the noise and my chest quivering from the erie message from my ghost.
My ghost did not say any of the usual lines, such as, “Let’s see what we can find.” Again, it was silent, besides my footsteps. Besides being petrified, I was intrigued to continue. What the hell is going on? I finally realized that this experience needs to be recorded, so I issued a “Xbox, record that,” because I do not have any recording hardware. There was a checkpoint indicator on the screen, so I began traveling towards it. My sparrow was unavailable, so I headed out on foot towards the Hellmouth. On the walk over, I longed to hear the grunt of a dreg spotting me or the industrial noise of a servitor preparing to fire, but no, more dead silence. I ended up walking over a large hill which led to a cornered valley with a few of the orange colored stations scattered about. As soon as they came into sight, a very deep, low buzzing noise became audible accompanied with radio static. Again, my heart started racing. How could this be happening when it is not part of Destiny?
The indicator had disappeared, so I started walking through the stations looking for any signs of normal Destiny. I found nothing, as the the deep buzzing noise started getting louder and louder. I followed the buzzing and radio static to a dark entry of the largest station in the area. It was blaring at this point, but I had to keep going; sleep was no longer an option for the night. In the moon dust in front of the entry, like a welcome mat, were the numbers “9:21,” written in dark red. The radio static blasted a louder, finer tone, as if tuning into a station. Then, the recognizable voice of Rasputin crept in through this hidden speaker. I could hear Rasputin’s disturbing sound and pronunciation, but couldn’t make out words. So I walked into the station, past one of the dead astronauts lying hunched in a corner, to a console in the back where the broadcast was coming from. It was Rasputin repeating something in many different languages. I didn't know what he was saying for a minute or two until he uttered, “The windows… the corpses… they will not be gathered… DON’T LET HIM IN,” with a small pause of radio static between each statement. He continued in a new language, while the buzzing was becoming almost real.
“Xbox, record that,” I said shakily, realizing that I had forgotten to keep recording. A notification popped up that read, “Unknown error.” Then, the tuning noise again from the radio, followed by nothing. Nothing but the deep, unbearable buzz. I was so engulfed in what was happening that I inched closer to the TV. Another bit of static. Rasputin’s voice broke through again.
“He is here. He is here. He is here. He is here…” Text showed up in the bottom left corner of the screen that read, “Reaper’s Presence 10x.” Then silence. All was silent. Even the buzzing stopped. Another “Unknown error” messaged popped up on the bottom of the screen followed by a very bright red spot on my motion detector, at my six.
“I AM HERE!” blasted a distortedly, hushed scream from right behind me! I turned around, while jumping out of my seat to meet the gaze of the dead astronaut, inches from my face. I shot him with my Matador 64, only to see him jerk back from the blast, then continue staring at me. I pulled the trigger again, but the gun didn't shoot. All of its ammo had been taken away. I couldn't melee either. The text on the bottom left now read, “Reaper’s Presence 100x.” I could not move, only look into his gaze. The fracture in the helmet revealed half of his face. Deep, large, black eyes, gray skin that was gashed and poked, but no blood - only black in the gashes - and that grin. The grin I had seen earlier; a variant of the one Eris had flashed at me.
“You let me in” came from the Reaper, although his mouth did not change from the grin. He then moved his right arm back a little and shot it forward, jabbing something into my gut. The screen faded to black for a few seconds until some text popped up. It was a verse from The Holy Bible:
"For death has come up through our windows; It has entered our palaces To cut off the children from the streets, The young men from the town squares. Speak, "Thus says the LORD, 'The corpses of men will fall like dung on an open field, And like the sheaf after the reaper, But no one will gather them..." - Jeremiah 9:21 - 22
The text stayed there long enough for me to read it before abruptly disappearing. A notification popped up in the bottom, middle of the screen, “Unknown error.” It was cut off by the xbox shutting off.
