What did the Traveler fight, how did it fight and how was it crippled?

The Traveler yearns for a utopia universe of eternal Golden Ages. It can't do this because of the Darkness. It gives races Golden Ages while simultaneously turning them into proxy armies, leaving when the Hive arrive. It did this to every race except for us. It was tired of running and hiding, and just our luck it decided to stand its ground in our system. Unfortunately for it, the combined forces of us and the Traveler weren't enough to fight the Darkness and win. Rasputin (either working on some master plan, preparing for what might happen, or incorrectly simulating the Traveler) crippled the Traveler, releasing both the Ghosts and a massive blast of Light, driving back the Darkness and creating the Awoken.

Bloody hell. So Rasputin KO'd the Traveler? I don't doubt you at all, but could I have the citation?

Edited by Qwerty: 11/7/2015 2:25:16 PMFinally someone asks for citation rather than taking all words spoken up the butt without question. Anyway, I don't know exactly what he is refering to- but here is what I know. Logically reasoning that [O] is the Traveler, the Warmind catastrophe plan decided to shoot down the Traveler to prevent its escape and coerce its help.
Perform deniable authorization: full caedometric and noetic release Prevent [O] departure by any means available Stand by for effect assessment criteria: Coerce pseudoaltruistic [O] defensive action. Defer civilization kill.
-Rasputin 5 Rasputin decided that the Darkness, which in this form is the Hive, could not be stopped. He cancelled a counterattack and lowered our orbital defences. While the collapse was inevitable, he welcomed it in.
I am declaring YUGA SUNDOWN effective on receipt (epoch reach/FORCECON variant). Cancel counterforce objectives. Cancel population protection objectives. Format moral structures for MIDNIGHT EXIGENT.
-Rasputin 3

Holy Sh!t. I'm a pretty avid Destiny fan and even I didn't know that. So the Traveler was about to leave, as it did with the other races, and Rasputin just said "Nope, sit the fuqq down"? I'm interested as to how Ras disabled it. I mean, it's still somehow floating.

The Warmind setup this failsafe to insure survival, they kept the Traveler here at all costs because it was needed to survive. He used "full caedometric and noetic" power to do so.
If available ISR and WARWATCH indicates imminent [O] departure >then [O] departure compromises human/neohuman survival and epoch strategy
-Rasputin 5

The Traveler fought nothing. It expects others to do all the work, then runs. It did that to the Fallen when the Darkness came, and tried to do that to us- until the extinction event plan setup by the Warminds shot it.

"Do all the work" Pray tell, what kind of work done by obvious lesser beings could benefit something like the Traveler?

The Traveler grants them powers and sets them on a path of fake rules (the Light way). It is a puppet of sorts that gets societies to join the light (Read the conversation between the three daughters of the Osmium King and the Leviathan for more on that). Its not all known to us, but the Light benefits in someway through this.
