I like the points you've raised but I disagree. Obseletion is necessary for this game. Various interviews of Devs have given a large impression that they never intended us to be do attached to our gear. Difficulty to obtain, ability to craft to exactly how we want it to fit our style and the emergence of a few roll types that outclass other weapons by sheer performance. If you could use Y1 gear would you use the Y2 gear? Armor, I think so with what more they can do and the flexibility each peice has. Now we don't need various peices for a Strength/Intellect/Discipline build. The new weapon perks and various foundry styles, I'm still unsure on. Swords are fantastic I beleive. But would Bungie get any feedback on how the new stuff is and how to progress into the year with new gear if Gally was infusable? Stuff like that I'm sure Bungie was worried about and decided that as a new year it'll be the start of a new game of activities and gear. I have many found memories with my new gear. Silimar's Wrath, BTRD ect. To be honest I'm fine with Y1 being left behind. That way we can focus on moving forward and where the game will grow next.

Good post, As a Game Designer Myself, there are ways to make stuff like this exist, Different set of perks, different usabilities, cause at this with this, even now they have problems with the Current Exotics not even being worth it to equip. At this Point to they've bottle neck themselves. we're gonna have another Mass effect on our hands where in the end, your Touch of Malice is now useless and took you over countless of hours trying to get. Its hard to find good game design Now these days, and its not an easy task, But its still critical to keep past content and let them Co-exist with Present-Future. cause now past raids mean nothing, If i wanted to go get the legacy Gear in Crota, which doesnt make sense cause its not year 2 capable, but just wanted to see the ned boss or Fight Atheon, all of that is pointless and who would still want to go do that ? No one cause now its all garbage and a bit of the storyline people cant access cause no one wants to do them.

Thank you. I agree totally on year 1 activities needing to be relevant. -scale up the levels and add in random modifiers that reset on a weekly basis with year 2 exotics as possible rewards. -taken encounters with bosses and enemies now Taken. New Raid mechanics could be possible as well to test players with new ideas. -updated gear list for year 2 of all Raid gear Any if not all of these could be doable (depending on how much work they can put towards this) and go a long way to making the whole game relevant.

  • I am going to disagree with almost everything you said, but will do so as rationally as I can.
Obseletion is necessary for this game.
Says who and why do I care?
Various interviews of Devs have given a large impression that they never intended us to be do attached to our gear. Difficulty to obtain, ability to craft to exactly how we want it to fit our style and the emergence of a few roll types that outclass other weapons by sheer performance.
Players got attached to certain pieces of gear due to the mother-blam!-er we call RNG. On the other side of this, if gear was passed out like candy and minimal effort was put into acquiring the gear then players may not have grown so attached. But because so many players grinded their asses off on the same repetitive bullshit content this caused them to be much more attached to the gear they so desperately sought after. If Bungie wanted to make our gear disposable than their shitty, stingy RNG system wasn't the way to go about it. But, I'm becoming more and more convinced that the developers of this game are total -blam!-ing morons.
If you could use Y1 gear would you use the Y2 gear? Armor, I think so with what more they can do and the flexibility each peice has. Now we don't need various peices for a Strength/Intellect/Discipline build.
I will use whatever gear is better. I would have mixed Year 1 with Year 2 if I felt that was the best way to go about it. Bungie removing choices was more about making Year 2 gear look better than Year 1 as it was the only option on the table. It was and still is a chicken shit move on their part and it put no onus on them to make actual better gear.
The new weapon perks and various foundry styles, I'm still unsure on.
I have yet to find a NEW perk that I really like. I still prefer Firefly and extended mag as my go to perks. Tracking and tripod on launchers. Everything else seems pretty uninspired.
Swords are fantastic I beleive.
I still prefer launchers because I hate getting up close if I don't have to.
But would Bungie get any feedback on how the new stuff is and how to progress into the year with new gear if Gally was infusable?
Yes, because players will always migrate towards better gear, Bungie just made new gear more powerful they didn't make it better. I can almost guarantee you that players would have migrated to Year 2 gear naturally if the gear was legitimately better than Year 1. Bungie didn't want to look stupid if their Year 2 gear was mediocre, which it is, so they killed Year 1 gear as to have no competition.
Stuff like that I'm sure Bungie was worried about and decided that as a new year it'll be the start of a new game of activities and gear.
I think it was more that Bungie blew their load in Year 1 and realized that meeting or exceeding that gear would be too difficult. So, they killed it.
I have many found memories with my new gear. Silimar's Wrath, BTRD ect. To be honest I'm fine with Y1 being left behind. That way we can focus on moving forward and where the game will grow next.
Options. More options are better than fewer options. I still find it hard to believe that Bungie killed off Year 1 gear and content all in the name of "progression." TTK is the unofficial relaunch of this franchise whether they admit it or not.

  • Hmm thank you. I do disagree and hold to my points. What I believe we can agree on is that they went with Infusing all along. Even if they didn't quite know what to do with the Light system. One definite aspect I am looking forward to is getting my exotic Faction Bond from Dead Orbit. So my Faction rep can increase faster, more packages. Faction packages, Armsday and running Heroic strikes I think will improve the flow of gear I obtain compared to Year 1. I hope it's the she for other people. I think back to Borderlands and how every minute I was tossing weapons away that blew my mind for something that was a higher level. Right now with Infusing and more opurtnities to get gear, I think how we get attached to our gear will change and improve. Also I am very happy to see Bungie implementing a Reforge like option to Exotic Armours as having those fit our style exactly is not nearly game breaking as turning any decent shotgun into a Felwinter.

  •
Obseletion is necessary for this game.
I'm going to have to stop you right there. Why? This isn't an MMO that's going to last a decade; it's already been confirmed that they're planning to release a sequel next freaking year. This ecosystems isn't going to be around long enough to need any sort of "planned obsolescence."
If you could use Y1 gear would you use the Y2 gear?
This is a terrible, disproven approach, man. People said the same thing when Etheric Light was announced, but guess what? People STILL used new stuff, bro! I adored my VoG gear as much as anyone, but I still started using way more HoW gear than anything else. (Dat Trials gear, tho) In the same way, TTK gear is just as new and exciting, but there's no reason I can't enjoy using new AND old stuff. :P

  • I know it's not an MMO but the game and it's sequals need to rapidly change and improve if the series is to succeed. To me making people use new gear from year to year is the best way to do it. Also you are right, mostly. I did find myself using new gear but that's because the effort of obtaining Etheric Light was rather time consuming to me. Infusing is much easier and simpler. Sacrifice something stronger along with easily obtained materials.
