What?
You literally went on this mini rant for no reason.
Consume isn't really a buzz word. It's just any other common word. I am a consumer and I consume products. Why be so butt hurt about?
And thank for the pointless hitchhikers reference :-)

Woh, I'm not in a rant - that implies a somewhat aggressive manner, or at least your reaction seems you've taken it that way. I guess it's just the way text appears when you can't see or hear the person talking. You asked me a question, I answered However, the recent context of the word consume is a buzzword, and a fairly recent one that's been used in marketing over the past 7 years, perhaps, or maybe abit longer
recent

Buzz word

seven years
You can't be all 3. 7 years isn't recent for a word and something can't be a buzz word for 7 years. It's just a word that has garnered popularity because it's a good word. What better word is there to describe a customer? Words like "consume" can't even be buzz words. It elicits no emotion or reaction. It's just a common word used in the marketing and business industry, not to money off of people, but instead because it's one of the first words you learn when you go into that business.

In the grand scheme of things, 7 years IS fairly recent! lol! I guess you're quite young aren't you?
-
When it comes to words and language, 7 years is a very long time. That coupled with the fact that it's supposedly a buzz word, a word that's supposed to elicit emotions and it a reaction from someone. It's hard to imagine something can remain a buzz word for more than 2 years... So yeah, I'd say it is a very long time. And yes I am quite young, 16 to be exact.
