Ghost in the Shell (1995 movie, 2002- TV)
Cyberpunk at its best! Watch the original movie first and then the two seasons of Stand Alone Complex. The mood is different in the movie though but it makes you understand he universe.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995-1996) + End of Evangelion (1997)
A classic! Starts of like your average '90s mech anime but ends up being one of the most depressing things I've ever seen (in a good way).
Zankyou no Terror/Terror in Resonance (2014)
Short, beautiful, and fantastic music!
Serial Experiments Lain (1998)
A short, strange, and really good cyberpunk anime
As always watch the sub because dubs are usually terrible and fail spectacularly at portraying the characters' emotions.
Some movies I'd recommend:
Akira (1988)
Just watch it! Animation is beautiful and very detailed
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999)
Tthis is where the helghast in Killzone got their masks/eyes from. Sound design is fantastic in this.
Princess Mononoke (1997)
The best Studio Ghibli movie IMO
I almost forgot

I haven't seen the show but it's -blam!-ing hilarious!
