A better analogy would be if you bought an Iphone when it first came out. A year later they make a new Iphone, but you don't like the way the new one is set up, so you keep your old one. Problem is new apps that come out are only downloadable from the new system, you can't download any apps because your OS isn't the one the app was made for. The apps you like no longer get support so they are bugged out so bad that you can no longer run the apps at all. The Iphone itself let's you surf the web, make calls and texts, but that's it. You write a letter to Apple about how you used to be able to play games and do a lot of cool things on your Iphone, but now that you didn't upgrade, you can only do the bare minimum of what you used to be.
Now I understand that Iphones are supported for longer than a year, but eventually the phone you have will no longer be able to run apps anymore because they do quit supporting them after a while. After one year, some apps, not all, are only usable on the newest one.
So the people complaining it has only been a year, think about the price difference. I would rather pay $40 a year then $600 (or whatever an Iphone costs these days) every few years.
I like your analogy because its satirical, but it doesn't do the point justice.

Just don't upgrade your apps to the OS version you don't have. And you can ride out your iPhone 4 for years. I know people still rocking iOS 6 happily. They just understand not to expect to run the latest and greatest apps. Or they understand that continued app support costs a developer time and money. And if they want continued updates, pay for them.

Edited by GrundleBeans: 9/17/2015 8:06:11 PMYour "old OS apps are bugged out and don't work" analogy is incorrect. All your apps (vanilla Destiny content, TDB, and HoW) are still there, working as usual and still 100% supported. It's more like you lost access to a couple of features on the phone, like Bluetooth and location tracking (Heroic and Nightfall) because they require a new protocol. That's it. 95% of everything about your phone still works fine. You just can't get anything more for it.

Trials of Osiris was developed specifically for House of wolves. Can you play it without ttk now?
-
Yeah sure you can
-
Not strictly true as the blades and wolves have both been retired. Which is content I paid for. Petra has no quests and 3 eye girl has same problem. Thus content has been removed. (Have no idea as I own ttk whether the taken lieutants crop up in non ttk game play versions.)
-
Except iPhones are not subscriptions, you don't buy a liscence to access your own iphone lest it locks you out of content. Also of note, the failing support of your phone withh new apps would have nothing to do with Apple. It would be up to those developers to support.

problem with your phone analogy is that you can use the phone too do what you used to do . its not like you cant IM any more cuz you didnt buy the upgraded phone. you can use the features that came with that phone you payed for . the point is with the game you cant they made it so to enjoy the game you have to buy TTK all other purchases are null and void and dont matter . fine you can play story that you already played through and thats about it , they are forcing the issue of you want to play the game how you were before TTK buy TTK thats not how it should be . it should be broken up into DLC holdings where each DLC still has its value of things to do for there price . you payed for this this and this you shouldn't just get that and thats all . i have TTK and im not happy with what limited play is avail to me compared to before TTK . you all can white knight bungie all you want , this is Expansion treats its previous customers Poorly . your new ? welcome you wont miss anything . till the next expansion when the TTK content will be locked out behind the next DLC .
-
That's still not a correct analogy - that' good for leasing vs purchase. Its simple - you can play the content you purchased (i think weekly and raids were updates) up to X level just like any game in years gone by that was burnt gold and done (say sonic for genesis). That's it. If you want to go further you buy the expansions - (in the old days sonic II and unlock miles ;))
-
nope it was all marketed as part of the DLC when they promoted before purchase , ALL OF IT , the strikes, the bounties ,EVERYTHING, to take away a portion of a DLC and not compensate for that content promoted . when you see Bungie stream/ reveal where they show you whats in a DLC its everything , the strikes the bounties a little of the story . so if it was promoted then it should still be avail in some form , the value of what you bought is missing , plain and simple , theres been no compensation for what is missing , those that have these DLCS dont have access to 3/4 of the features anymore of the DLC purchased , they cant really progress in those DLCs other than the story , there is no weekly's to do or dailies which is the meat and potatoes of the DLCs to progress , this content options shouldn't have been taken out , instead they should've just added content for those that have TTK . so there should be daily and weekly events for ALL 3 DLC not just the current flavor of the week/month . thats what all these players that either recently purchased or havent yet reached TTK level or purchased the TTK are upset about , and they have every right to be . bungie owes some form of compensation, for the removal of game play options .its one thing to remove a event that doesnt play well or is broken , but another just to remove content to force you to buy the new content while the white knights say "its a every evolving game bla bla bla " even full fledged mmos which evolve as well still let you play the FULL Previous EXPANSIONS even when a new one comes out , Destiny should be no different .

No. OP nailed the analogy.
Suck it
I appreciate it guys. I thought about making a thread and just copy and pasting it, but I don't know if I should. Do you all think I should?
-
Loving this, best one I've seen.

Bump...this guy gets it.

Best analogy I've heard about the current situation

You are probably one of the few sensible individuals I've met on the forums.

This is perfect. Sadly, the idiots won't comment on this because it makes too much damn sense.
