Except..those are to keep things they own theirs. Which is fine. I understand that I don't own the game's code. I just own the right to play it. The Internet is a tool, just because every developer relies on it doesn't make it a service. They need to constantly update? Because they're over budget and need sales to justify the work needed to apply an update, or what would be polish if it hadn't released. Again. Take away the Internet, nothing has changed. The game is the same without its constant connection. Players can join with servers we CHOOSE to use, we can still have pvp. It's all the same. Just because Activision found a good way to screw you doesn't make it a service.

I meant update in terms of new content. Nobody would be playing vanilla Destiny anymore without updates. Nor the vanilla version of most any game, for that matter. Super Mario Brothers on NES did not require Nintendo to be monitoring servers 24/7. The games of today do. That's a big difference. Also, there is that whole EULA thing again, which whether you like it or not, you agreed to.
SERVICES AND TERMS OF USE: USE OF CERTAIN FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM, INCLUDING ONLINE OR MULTIPLAYER COMPONENTS, OR UPDATED FEATURES, MAY REQUIRE ASSENT TO ADDITIONAL TERMS OF SERVICE. IF YOU DO NOT ASSENT TO ADDITIONAL TERMS OF SERVICE, YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS OR USE ADDITIONAL GAME FEATURES. PLEASE REVIEW THE ADDITIONAL TERMS OF SERVICE AThttp://www.bungie.net/eula BEFORE INSTALLING OR USING THE PROGRAM.
Edit: bad quote bracket

  • You mean legal crap that's been around for ages? Seen it. Not interested. Games have had the "terms of service" for over a decade. They still aren't services. You Destiny morons will believe anything to the contrary. What's next? God exists? The twin towers really was Bush all along? Come on guys. Time to quit being hipster retards that follow trends and fail to understand legal jargon along with a proper interpretation. Done. Will not listen to this crap. You're worse than Mormons. At least they go away.

  • OK, so nevermind the EULA that stays they can change the terms and require you to make purchases to maintain full access to the game. Whether we like it or not, that's there. The crux of the conversation is whether or not a service is being provided by Bungie. You say no, Destiny is just a game. I say there are service elements in that they have to upkeep servers and provide new content. I was most interested in your thoughts on that particular concept, as I find it hard to imagine that you truly believe the level of "service" requires between Mario and Destiny is the same.
