You agreed to this before you even got past the title screen.
Year one players remaining at year one have most of their content left- being able to pick individual levels and such is gone, but the activities themselves are not.

[i]Content[/i] would be a strike, story mission, etc. Year one players still have access to all of their content.
[i]Endgame activities[/i] would be things like the Nightfall, weekly, high-level strike lists and high level story modes.
The problem here is that if a player didn't buy the Taken King expansion, they are locked out of endgame activities for that expansion. Bungie simply carbon-copied World of Warcraft for this.
I think the main problem people have right now is that it came with a [u]major[/u] restructuring of the entire game, and we all need to adapt to it.
