If you don't run one, then don't hug a tight space when you see red coming towards you on the map, move back and shoot them in the face.
The nerfs slashed at their range hugely, it's just that so many goddamn small maps are in the rotation. You ever see people having huge success shotgunning on first light and bastion, no. It's common sense guardians, cmon..
Edit: I'm enjoying hearing some reasonable debates and logical points for a change. Thought salty dwellers lurked in all corners of this forum..

1) The range of the shotguns wasn't nerfed "hugely" given that the people who know what they are doing are using Shot Package and not Rangefinder. 2) Yes, a big part of the problem is that maps. But it's pretty apparent their way of designing maps isn't going to change anytime soon. That's almost like someone complaining about her weight and then telling her that it's simply due to the Earth's gravity. 3) The "move back and shoot them in the face" solution simply doesn't work consistently, especially given that they've increased the TTK on most primary weapons. It's much harder to kill someone closing in than it was before 2.0. The problem with shotguns is that they are not balanced with the other special weapons. Shotguns have been a problem for a long time and the nerf wasn't really that significant. It's not just bad or average players complaining about it either. A lot of top players have also complained about it, players who actually know what they are doing.
