Constructive criticism vs hate vs blind loyalty

What is the point of the "feedback" forum? What purpose if any does it serve? Recently I read from Cozmo that this forum is for us, the players, to have a voice. And here we are, talking. Talking to Bungie and talking to each other. There seem to be three groups in the feedback forum. Those who give constructive criticism, those who spout hate, and those who are so loyal they have nothing negative to say about the game or bungie. The first group, those who give constructive criticism, play the game and see that it isn't perfect. And because they want the game to be better or would like to see improvements made, they take the time to sit down and write out their ideas in an effort to communicate with Bungie. Some times it works. Vault space was increased because the community asked for it. Buffs and nerfs keep happening because they are listening. Improvements to the UI may or may not be a direct result of community feedback. And yet this group is under attack by the second group, haters. When I say "under attack", I simply mean haters coming to posts with constructive criticism and spouting hate at the OP and anyone who agrees with them. For haters, there is no middle ground. You're either with them or you're with Bungie. I've seen well written articulate posts dismissed outright because the OP dared to suggest that Destiny was worth playing despite flaws. In the hate filled dismissal, the hater usually accuses the OP of being a "desticle" or fanboy. They suggest that any further support of the game is a useless gesture and the only true way to see improvements is to boycott the game altogether. Haters live in a self induced fantasy world filled with a delusional sense of self importance where they are the center of the universe. They feel that if we would just do as they asked, things would go exactly as they say it will. What they fail to realize is this simple truth. Destiny isn't going anywhere. It is, and continues to be, a successful game. There are so many players that aren't on these forums. People who enjoy logging in, playing, and logging out. They don't read the forums or have any idea what is being said here. But the haters want you to believe that Destiny is in trouble and that if we boycott the taken king, we will soon be reading news on IGN or elsewhere that Destiny is no more. That activision pulled the plug and Bungie is suffering massive layoffs. Sorry haters, that's not going to happen. It's simply unrealistic. Destiny is a juggernaut, like it or not. Edit: http://m.ign.com/articles/2015/09/17/destiny-the-taken-king-is-playstations-most-downloaded-day-one-game-ever?utm_source=IGN%20hub%20page&utm_medium=IGN%20(front%20page)&utm_content=1&utm_campaign=Blogroll Which leads me to the third group, those who blindly support the game without ever speaking negatively about it. If you aren't willing to see things for what they are and make suggestions on how to improve them, then you're not helping make the game you love better. You're telling the developer that you're happy with the game as is. And if that's the case, why should they ever make improvements? One of these groups serves a purpose, the other two do not. If we are to make a difference, it is clear that constructive criticism is the only effective way to achieve that goal. Hatred or blind loyalty achieve nothing. So to all of those who don't offer constructive criticism, you can continue to beat your collective heads against the wall, or you can join us and open a dialogue with the developer in order to help us improve our experience with Destiny. The choice is yours.

  • Good post, and I think a fairly accurate account of different types, but... IMHO, it is a type of profiling that is not completely accurate. I myself, sometimes write very "negative" post on things about Bungie, and a couple well known employees. But... I play the game, and have had a lot of fun; the fun has diminished, but still enough that I still do play. But I won't apologize for my negative posts - and I do not use foul language like a lot of people use, but I do believe they do deserve harsh criticism for things that they have done, and seem to be continuing to do. Yet when I read a post from someone that still likes playing and still supports Bungie, I will answer their posts. Never condemning them, unless they are do that themselves, but politely and I do have empathy and let them know that not everyone is going to send hateful messages. Personally, I can't stand trolls. There have been a few times where a post sounded like a troll, and I would respond, and it ended up being a very decent conversation where we both ended up being able to have an amenable discussion. I do agree with you about some that have a false reality thinking that they can get Bungie to fall apart, but I am aware that (even my own embargo) will not put them out of business. But my aspirations would be that there were enough that would embargo the next DLC, that they would have to at least sit up and take notice enough to make some positive changes. I really never expect them to crash and burn, nor do I really want them to, all I would like is to not have a paywall, where I can no longer play things that I felt that I have already paid for, and they are taking it away. Furthermore, I wouldn't mind if certain people were no longer placed into the limelight, simply because I think that their attitudes are too pompous and show signs of real arrogance, which I think are wrong for any business to display towards its clients. But, I am not asking for them to be fired, just to either change the attitude that they portray, or give them something else to do where we are not (can not be) disobliged by tactless remarks.
