Constructive criticism vs hate vs blind loyalty

What is the point of the "feedback" forum? What purpose if any does it serve? Recently I read from Cozmo that this forum is for us, the players, to have a voice. And here we are, talking. Talking to Bungie and talking to each other. There seem to be three groups in the feedback forum. Those who give constructive criticism, those who spout hate, and those who are so loyal they have nothing negative to say about the game or bungie. The first group, those who give constructive criticism, play the game and see that it isn't perfect. And because they want the game to be better or would like to see improvements made, they take the time to sit down and write out their ideas in an effort to communicate with Bungie. Some times it works. Vault space was increased because the community asked for it. Buffs and nerfs keep happening because they are listening. Improvements to the UI may or may not be a direct result of community feedback. And yet this group is under attack by the second group, haters. When I say "under attack", I simply mean haters coming to posts with constructive criticism and spouting hate at the OP and anyone who agrees with them. For haters, there is no middle ground. You're either with them or you're with Bungie. I've seen well written articulate posts dismissed outright because the OP dared to suggest that Destiny was worth playing despite flaws. In the hate filled dismissal, the hater usually accuses the OP of being a "desticle" or fanboy. They suggest that any further support of the game is a useless gesture and the only true way to see improvements is to boycott the game altogether. Haters live in a self induced fantasy world filled with a delusional sense of self importance where they are the center of the universe. They feel that if we would just do as they asked, things would go exactly as they say it will. What they fail to realize is this simple truth. Destiny isn't going anywhere. It is, and continues to be, a successful game. There are so many players that aren't on these forums. People who enjoy logging in, playing, and logging out. They don't read the forums or have any idea what is being said here. But the haters want you to believe that Destiny is in trouble and that if we boycott the taken king, we will soon be reading news on IGN or elsewhere that Destiny is no more. That activision pulled the plug and Bungie is suffering massive layoffs. Sorry haters, that's not going to happen. It's simply unrealistic. Destiny is a juggernaut, like it or not. Edit: http://m.ign.com/articles/2015/09/17/destiny-the-taken-king-is-playstations-most-downloaded-day-one-game-ever?utm_source=IGN%20hub%20page&utm_medium=IGN%20(front%20page)&utm_content=1&utm_campaign=Blogroll Which leads me to the third group, those who blindly support the game without ever speaking negatively about it. If you aren't willing to see things for what they are and make suggestions on how to improve them, then you're not helping make the game you love better. You're telling the developer that you're happy with the game as is. And if that's the case, why should they ever make improvements? One of these groups serves a purpose, the other two do not. If we are to make a difference, it is clear that constructive criticism is the only effective way to achieve that goal. Hatred or blind loyalty achieve nothing. So to all of those who don't offer constructive criticism, you can continue to beat your collective heads against the wall, or you can join us and open a dialogue with the developer in order to help us improve our experience with Destiny. The choice is yours.

  • The only problem becomes that many of those who believe that they are offering constructive criticism, are actually doing nothing but offering thinly veiled hate and vitriol. And because it's barely disguised, these people quickly rise to the top of the community's favorite users, even when these people are actually doing nothing but merely repeating what the rest of the community is saying. These people do it so often that they're elevated to an almost god like status, to the point that they not only garner a following, but when one of them gets banned suddenly the rules no longer apply to them and their followers flood the feedback forums with petitions to unban them. And the person even admitted that the banning was just! But to their cult, that didn't matter. They continued to flood the forums for the next week. As far as fanboys go, a lot of people are labeled such when they aren't fanboys. I myself have been labeled one many times, even when I acknowledge the fact that Destiny/Bungie/Activision are flawed simply because I defend many of the games better qualities, or because I point out when someone uses an argument that is either factually wrong or employs a logical fallacy of some sort. And the fact of the matter is that the game is never going to improve become what we all want it to be if the community is against itself in this way. A house divided against itself cannot stand. And we are no exception.
