I don't recall Bungie showing off Gjallahorn before the base game launched. I assume, or rather hope, their mindset is just showing off some of the more marketable, pretty exotics to get people new to Destiny interested, and save the ones that will actually be exciting and game breaking for TTK. I also remember that they showed off Thorn in a Weekly Update a long time ago, and it was one of the worst guns in the game when it came out. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that these are the best Bungie has to offer.

They 100% showed a picture of it talking about how long it took to design it. Weekly update before the game or something.

Gjallarhorn was actually used by the Titan in the live action ad before release.

I like your idea, but I think comparing this to the launch of base destiny is very different. Bungie already has this toxic community, they're stuck with it. All they're trying to do now is show off some of their stuff that they think will make people happy, with their current knowledge of the game.

If Bungie really is trying to satisfy their toxic community with these, I must say I'm confused about their thought process. The weapons are fantastic for that, but it seems like the unique niche perks of the Warlock and Titan exotics they revealed would be better suited to discovery in game than to generate hype. I almost don't believe that Bungie would think a chance of turning Ammo to Glimmer is a big enough change to generate mass hype like the announce of Sleeper Simulant or Nolan North.
