So apparently once TTK launches, we will all be subject to an analysis of our gear which determines our level. Oh boy...
Bungie, you need to be very transparent about how this calculation will work... Here's what we gotta know:
1. The calculation will apparently consider equipped, inventoried, and vault gear. I have 3 characters, each of them is 34, but I've invested way more time into my Warlock. So will this 'calculation' only assess gear, or will it assess time played/total experience/faction level, etc for each character? Will I wake up on 9/15 with 3 level 35 characters, or will my Warlock be 36, my Hunter 35, and my Titan 34?
2. What gear holds more 'weight' in this calculation? For example, is my ascended VoG gear worth more XP than say, a fresh set of Dead Orbit gear? If I have 3 Apotheosis Veils, is that combo worth less than my Sunbreakers, Nothing Manacles, and Claws of Ahamkara combined? I have three Gjallarhorns (earned, not Xurned), do I get credit for all three, or just one?
3. If my marks are being converted to 'reputation packages', would I be better off buying more gear from vendors to pad my initial level calculation? Should I dump these 20 weapon cores into 20 Shadow of Veils before TTK launches?
And on an unrelated note:
Will we have one more Iron Banner before you inevitably -BLAM- it up? For old times sake...

Edited by Soulburnt: 8/21/2015 8:39:46 PMits not like its going to be a huge grind to get to 40. i feel like nothing has really changed. same shit now just 2 piles of it. light will still determin how well you can do content. 40 is the new level 20. which basically becomes useless once you hit cap. except for gaining motes. esentially all light is now is a more refined gear score.

Edited by TRDoug: 8/21/2015 2:53:55 AMThey already said we will retain or level we have now which will be for me and you 34.......I'm thinking we all better make sure when we log off on September 14th that we've got all our 42 light gear equipped, if not and we're at a lesser level when reset hits that's what you'll be at. Light no longer depicts our level, xp does. So even if your Max level, which is 40, but you don't have Max level weapons and armor, you will deal less damage and withstand less punishment All the gear we have in our vault and classes will average out to give us attack and defense values. So....the more of the newer higher level TTK gear we own, will make us tougher AMD able to deal higher amounts of damage, in theory. That's why Bungie is telling us not to dismantle anything, the more we have stored up the more powerful we'll be...again..in theory.

You're way over thinking it. If you have light 42 boots, chest, arms and helmet you will be a level 34.
