I don't understand how you were under the impression that your year 1 gear would continue to be relevant all the way through year 10. You really thought that this was it? You really thought that Fatebringer and VoC were the only guns you'd ever need and would never be replaced?
The biggest mistake that Bungie made was bringing Etheric Light into the game. Granted it was a step in the right direction with regard to customization, but ultimately it was a bad move. They should have left the old guns in the past. Had they done so, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation right now.
On a personal note, I think the changes coming with TTK will breathe some life back into this game. From what I've been hearing, the coming changes will provide some sustainability to the game that was unavailable with the old/current systems.

Agreed. The second I saw this I knew it was a bad mistake. I knew people would get butthurt because they can't use fatebringer black hammer and Gjallarhorn for 10 years

There's alot more guns than those two buddy. All the guns thst we've reforged and still doing as of now to make them unique to our play styles, armor is another important one, gives cosmetic diversity

Did you see in that first line where I wrote "year 1 gear"? I thought that was all encompassing, but apparently I was supposed to list literally everything. Apologies. If you want to cling to the past, continue to use those weapons. Like i said, Bungie made a big mistake by allowing you to ascend gear in the first place. The vanilla weapons should have been left behind long ago, or continued to use, just not at the max level. Now that armor is going to be free from light, it will vastly broaden our ability to be individualized without having some stupid mat that is unobtainable for some (not saying me, I've got a surplus that I'm not using). All I'm saying is that I think these changes will be for the best overall. The EL thing was nothing more than a tease that probably never should have been introduced in the first place. If it hadn't we would all already be accustomed to the fact that we'd be leaving gear behind for something better/more powerful.

I just read a preview review on it, sounds more promising I must admit

It really does. It's like we're finally getting the game that this was hyped to be a year ago. Granted, I had A LOT of fun with this throughout year one, but lately I've had this feeling of doing all for naught. I wasn't seeing how the current systems were going to continue to be relevant throughout the "ten year plan" that Bungie has. After reading through some of the changes, it appears that they're looking at the big picture now. This game might just be great again and give us all that day 1-day 90 feeling/high that we all had during that time.

Agreed. And here's another thing, yes I expected to use my legendary stuff. They're called -blam!-ing "lagendaries"!!! You should be able to use them forever and make them your "legend"... If you're just going to take the eraser to the chalkboard and make all of our stuff obsolete, then stop calling them lengendaries... Just call them "really pretty purple guns"
