Yeah, our grind definitely didn't mean anything. We might as well all delete our characters and boycott the game, right? Maybe the time spent meant nothing to you, but it meant something to me. I've chosen a few guns that I'll take with me to year 2, but as trophies. The entire point of the decision to not ascend year 1 weapons is pretty obvious. To adapt, broaden your horizons and actually use other guns. Did you really think you would take a shadow price or a vanquisher from the launch all through the 10 years? Because quite honestly, that would be boring. New weapons means new memories to come.

  • I still enjoy using most of Halos weapons ten years later, and I know i'm not alone. So why couldn't weapons in Destiny have the same classic appeal down the road? My concern is that rather than an ever growing list of unique gear and weapons Destiny will perpetually be restricted by high production values, leading to chronically low variety. Honestly gear ascension was the only thing that saved the end game from being aesthetically and mechanically monotonous in my opinion. There are better ways to get people to try new things, positive reinforcement works better than negative reinforcement. In truth though, the writing was probably on the wall anyway. With Destiny 2 a year away, and a new engine and asset quality standard the old gear was probably doomed to be left behind anyway.
