That the day The Taken King releases.
All that gear your grinded for for hours on end and worked hard to get is becoming useless.
All that ascending for nothing.
Thanks Bungie. I'm cancelling my pre-order.
This is just pathetic.
We're getting remodelled weapons with different names and colours.
Devil You Know and Revelator have same base stats.
Red Hand IX and Lone.Rebel have same base stats.
Deadshot Luna SR1 and B-Line Trauma have same stats.
I'm so happy to dismantle my favourites for identical overall base stats DUPLICATES.
Everything will continue to be the same.
Yes "move on" to "better weapons".
All that changes are the name, colour and a slight adjustment to the models.. The attack value goes up.
Yet THE BASE STATS WILL DUPLICATE.
Edit: Yes this is my first MMO.
Yes I love the weapons I am currently using.
Yes I love playing Destiny, gameplay is incredible.
Yes I will complain when things piss me off.
Edit 2:
This is an MMO.
This isn't an MMO.
I really couldn't care less about the genre.
Edit 3: If you're happy spending money for your weapons, that you worked hard for, to become obsolete then good for you.
I chase the weapons. You may chase armor, grimoire, experience or enjoy doing the same thing week in week out.
Insults don't affect me, in fact it shows how low your intellect is.
"They said wait" they shouldn't have to.
They shouldn't let people jump to conclusions.
They shouldn't let misinformation be released.
Edit 4: unlike the majority. I rarely use my fatebringer.
Final Edit: After reading many constructive replies and having checked in on Destiny today. I've decided I'm going to have to line up all my weapons and start cutting them out. Keeping all exotics and useful crucible weapons and those I consider to be useful.

Dear christ if you're that upset about it just trade the game in and play something else. It's the right call to make to progress the game down the line towards the ultimate goal.
-
What they should do is make a vault that is divided into 10 sections were you can add a number of armor and guns in each. 1 for each year. If they make the weapons and armor obsolete at least we can keep it as trophys.
-
It's been this way every expansion idk what you noobs are bitching about.

This is the problem with an "mmo" on console. Casual players will cry when leaving gear but in any mmo you out level gear all the time.
I know destiny isnt an mmo but it is like an mmo
-
Simple fact of MMOs buddy, granted this is your first but all of us will have to make due with new weapons and some will potentially be even better than year one's. It's also important to note that bungie said to see what happens so there is still hope for you!
-
I don't have a problem about our year one weapons being useless but I do wish they could of stuck a bit longer maybe until destiny 2 comes out, then we should put them to rest
-
They should just drop the attack rating and let me use what ever weapon I won't with no draw backs
-
That the day The Taken King releases. All that gear your grinded for for hours on end and worked hard to get is becoming useless. All that ascending for nothing.
Soooo you've already managed to acquire all the new TTK weapons, officially making yours obsolete the day ttk drops? Because that's what you're implying here. I remember these same type of posts before tdb dropped, yet the "obsolete" weapons were still more than effective. Posts like this prove that the fps community walks around feeling half insulted already and it only takes hearsay to push you over into full butthurt...
-
Misinformation spread by the community is impossible to control. Bungie couldn't have done anything about it.
-
The point of ascension was to send your favorite weapons out with a bang. I am sick of people not understanding how MMO/RPG games work.
-
It's just legendary stuff that's becoming useless. You should have been able to figure that out on your own just by reading the ascending option on your weapons and armor.. It clearly states. "Increase the Attack value of this Weapon to the highest available in Year 1" (For weapons) Or "Increase the Defense value of this armor to the highest available in Year 1" (For Armor) They don't put that wording there for nothing.
-
No they didn't say that so shut your ridiculous face up. That's the MEDIA causing the hype along with a community of people who are too dumb to realize what media spin is. Until you read it from Bungie website or update, don't believe it. Things change all the time. It's called progression. Sack up. Also you can pre-order 1 day in advance too get all the same stuff as someone who preorders 4 months in advance ( except for collectors editions obviously). So next time hold off until more info is shared.
-
Fare well :3 But in the future I'm sure we'll see your name in the "Recruitment" forums saying "Need 5, at Oryx checkpoint" :P see you there mate :P
-
Even if you could ascend gear there are gonna be better guns with even better perks. New raid weapons as well. Also if you've seen dattos preview of TTK the armour even has good perks
-
Lol then leave scrub Btw my intellect is maxed out ;) Bye Felicia
-
Your fault for getting yourself into the game. With no experience with MMOs you have no right to come here crying lol. Then edit the post over and over again with pretentious crap. Go play a different game.
-
That's just how MMORPG's work. It's not for everyone.
-
I will pre order, I loved the idea about the levels and new gear, this game has potential to become a real RPG.
-
They said legendaries cannot be upgraded though, you can be lv 40 with anything, but you might not want lv 34 defense/attack numbers. Does that mean exotics can't be upgraded as well? I am not sure. I think it could be be a xur upgrade type thing again or possibly no upgrades at all.
-
HAHAAAA! Sucks to suck rugrat

I think that most people who complain about this game actually like the game or, more to the point, what the game could/should be. They are upset because the do not feel (rightly or wrongly) that Bungie is not doing their best to make a great game but just trying to string along a player base with empty promises of what could be. Couple this with the expediency to which they address code deficiencies that result in benefits to players (cheese, exploits, loot cave, etc) but the slow or non-existent response to player-detrimental bugs (Sword disappearing, heavy ammo, etc) and it can be tough to see Bungie as a company that has its player's best interest in mind. There are quite a few examples of lack of testing (Fatebringer perks, hive disruptor, Queen's Wrath, etc.), lack of forethought (exotics reset after upgrade), lack of story implementation (yes, there is a story, go check the grimoire cards, which aren't in the game), lack of immersion (my guardians don't have individual names, residences, personality?), lack of variety (six dance routines, high level armor makes everybody look the same, etc), lack of transparency (do they acknowledge issues or ignore them, when is Queen's Wrath or any significant PvE Event, why do we get the same strike over and over, etc.), lack of honest/intelligence (I do not buy that Bungie does not control, to one degree or another, Xur's stock. If they do control it, it is disingenuous to say otherwise, if not, they are passing up an opportunity to influence player base in a meaningful way), lack of awesomeness (the plethora of opportunities to be awesome that just aren't taken advantage of, i.e. player's ships, new/innovative bounties, new events, more personality to npc's, a world actually influenced by player's, interactive scenery, better crucible types, etc.) This is a new genre (sort of) trying to support old and new platforms. There are some things that were going to be initially supported that, for whatever reason, were cut back. There are some fixes in the pipeline. Hopefully HoW is delayed for actual improvements and not merely bug-fixing. There is a lot of potential and Bungie says they have a 10 year timeline for Bungie with a significant budget to back that up. Unfortunately, they can't wait until year three to start being amazing. Frankly, I feel that Destiny is merely an extended beta for Destiny 2. Others may feel that way as well. If people stop playing Destiny will they come back for Destiny 2? Would the amount of people who wouldn't return be significant enough to encourage Bungie to have a better product now? A lot of this could be alleviated just by Bungie being open and up front (going back to that transparency issue). Will there be trading in this game? If not, what about in Destiny 2? What about private lobbies/matches for crucible? More vault space? They could just come out and say, 'hey, guys, we want to let you know we are working on more vault space (or whatever issues they are addressing) because we realize that has been a problem issue for some players. We can't say how much of an increase we can implement but plan to have an increase in the next month (or whatever timeframe).' Periodic addresses like this would go a long way to restoring player trust. A successful video game franchise is a collaboration of Company and Players. Bungie needs to learn to be a team player. TLDR: don't read it then.
-
I don't understand how you were under the impression that your year 1 gear would continue to be relevant all the way through year 10. You really thought that this was it? You really thought that Fatebringer and VoC were the only guns you'd ever need and would never be replaced? The biggest mistake that Bungie made was bringing Etheric Light into the game. Granted it was a step in the right direction with regard to customization, but ultimately it was a bad move. They should have left the old guns in the past. Had they done so, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation right now. On a personal note, I think the changes coming with TTK will breathe some life back into this game. From what I've been hearing, the coming changes will provide some sustainability to the game that was unavailable with the old/current systems.
-
Now think about what would happen if all the gear was the same and never got better...
-
Here's my problem with making legendary weapons from year one obsolete. People that don't have the first two expansions will have to buy them in order to play TTK. So they will purchase the first two expansions just to get obsolete weapons. Sure they'll get the raid, but the rewards will be useless, so they are spending more money then the rest of us just so they can get year two weapons. That's a terrible deal. Why should someone buy something they can't use, just to be able to buy something else they can use?
-
What i don't understand is this is how every other MMO works. There's no exception. Bungie shot themselves in the foot by allowing ascending, but either way this is the right choice. It's the only way they'll ever truly move forward.
