They'll still be useful in normal PvP, but Bungie seems pretty intent on rendering them obsolete in PvE, going off of how they regret making some of the early Year 1 weapons so damn good.
Still, they'll be nice collectibles.

That seems to be the idea. I love how they made etheric light and being able to play how I want. But also if they kept that trend going you would have people never changing their loadout for PvE. We'd all run Fatebringer and VoC forever because almost nothing is comes close to them

If they made more weapons as useful as Fatebringer/VoC, there'd be a wider variety. Instead, it seems we get just a small number of competitively viable weapons while the rest aren't as popular. It'll be the same beast in TTK, I wager. People will be dazzled by the shiny new weapons for a few minutes before realizing that only 5 or 6 out of the whole bunch are worthwhile in the hardest endgame content.

My Unfriendly Giant even though it had Vacuum was pretty good for clearing out mobs at a safe distance in PvE. Has a high blast radius with cluster bombs. Vacuum helps me pick up ammo from a safe distance so I can quickly get back into cover. The things was great in VoG
