"I remember a GDC talk by Blizzard’s Rob Pardo where he outlined a concept any MMO designer should be familiar with. “Always balance up,” he said, talking about both World of Warcraft and Diablo 2 (this was a while ago). If you find something in your game that feels overpowered, that’s good. Players will enjoy it. The solution is never to remove that feeling of power, but to power up other things in the game to meet it. When you weaken your most fun tools, you push everything into a mushy middle. Better to explode everything out into weird and new directions by enabling the players. So if the problem was that players spent an inordinate amount of time with a few overpowered guns, the solution is to give us more overpowered guns to choose from. Or you can make new enemies and game modes that thwart an exotic gun’s special abilities in interesting ways (read: something besides just having a ton of hitpoints). It is, you could say, a balancing act. But it’s one where it’s a lot harder to mess up by enabling players instead of hobbling them." Until bungie works this out im sad to say im done with this game. Any remaining hope that they would see reason and change their practices is gone. Lost sols, great analysis of the changes. These changes again demonstrates a lack of respect of the day one players. Our hard earned favorite weapons being nerfed is an insane move. How they think we would be ok with that is mystifying. Actually i find it hard to believe that there are players ok with it. They seem more intent on using negative manipulative human behavioural psycology than positive ways to motivate us like quality varied content and an interesting story tied into a progression system that rewards our efforts. I like when people put on their tin foil hats and your speculation on the reasons for this makes perfect sense to me. I hope enough reject this plan of theirs though so they have to rethink it. Unfortunately though it probably shows they have enough presales to be confident they can continue with their money grabbing plans with out serious ramifications. Games im going to for now are rocket league (much better online competitive experience than crucible plus dedicated servers), telltale series games for great story telling. I also have alien isolation, and shadow of mordor i picked up cheap to get to. Eventually im hoping battlefront will be great.

Started a new topic: Hey Deej/Cozmo, take notes. This guy has it right.(23 Replies))

  • Agreed. I'm totally missing their logic on this one. Nerfing the Gally is only going to lead to more exclusivity due to players attempting to offset the nerf. They've essentially locked out non-Gally players completely. The exotics are supposed to be overpowered, because like you say, they're very hard to get. Took 40+ raids before I got my Hawkmoon. I put in the time and effort to get those guns, and now they're being rendered useless. I have a Felwinters with shot package, and 80% percent of my kills come from my shotty. The other 20% from my Hawkmoon. So it's safe to say that I'm absolutely horrified by these nerfs. I'll probably still do a couple of raids to help out friends of mine, but my Iron Banner and Crucible career is effectively over. Not going back in there with such a severe handicap. The nerf on the Hawkmoon's Holding Aces perk is just baffling. Now it's no better than an Ill Will or Her mercy with a luck in the chamber perk.

  • This doesn't apply here though. You can't just take something that makes sense for a completely different kind of game and just say that because it works it must be applied here. WoW doesn't have any weapons that can kill someone in .26 seconds. Or a boss in under a minute. That's why you have to nerf. Otherwise, we start getting into amounts of time that humans struggle to process correctly. Nah, you're right. Every gun in this game should kill someone in 1/4 of a second.

  • Sure it may not apply here for pvp but its a principle that applies in general and probably does apply to pve. If you make a reward powerful then take it away its going to be unpopular. Not a smart move before a major dlc release which alot are still deciding if they want or not. It would be like a political party saying they are going to raise taxes a couple of months out from an election. It would be political suicide. Thats why they do it after theyve already been voted in. We get angry but cant do anything about it. Come next election most have forgotten. Im not saying thats right but its smarter than what bungie are doing here. Nerfing imo should not be apart of pve. If they want people using more varied weapons make better weapons. Its not difficult to understand.

  • If you push everything up then what? Everything kills in 1 or 2 headshots in pvp that's not weird or new that's -blam!-ing lame. That's cod you -blam!-ing retard.

  • Do you need a chill pill or what. Its a quote on another game. I reference it more as a point on the nerfing of pve weapons. Personally i dont care about pvp and rate it similar to cod simply cause it has the same lag issues which imo make it unplayable or at least an unenjoyable playing experience. The point of it is to give power then take it away is never going to be popular. Blizzard recognised it, bungie is yet to learn it...

Who cares what blizzard does. It's all quests as far as I know. Balance is not an issue they would really need to address without a competitive pvp. Bungie will have to buff and nerf things from time to time to get the desired affect in crucible. If a weapon has no downside (hc's that can beat anything at long, medium, or short range and have awsome fire rate and dot) it must be nerfed. Trade offs=balance.

  • Clearly we are talking about different game modes in destiny.
