Many people dismissed Toland as crazy, so it could be expected that the entire journal wouldn't have been accepted as the truth. "Down in the darkest depths and out the farthest reaches of space existed" Toland went down into the Hellmouth to face Crota with Eris's fireteam. Other parts of his Journal suggest that he went other places out of our knowledge. "I was not alone at the time, but your eyes could not see the truth" Toland's Journal was accompanied by Toland himself, and in his journal, he talks about how people are blind to the truth of things like the Hive pantheon or the creation of the universe.
