I would say stick with the xbone just because you have previously been with Microsoft. The new dashboard and such takes some getting use to but is really nice once you get the hang of navigating it.
The xbone also doubles as a media hub so you can your tv right up through it. I love watching tv on my xbox as the voice commands are very nice all I have to do is say "xbox sportsnet west" and it will pop up.
I'm not to experienced of a Sony player but that console has it's up too it to. Graphically it's supposed to be a bit better but other then that both systems are straight across the board for storage, ram and all the techy kinda stuff. You also mention In your post about the ps servers, they aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be but microsofts online services are no doubt better.
All and all it's your choice tho, what's always been the biggest factor for me is where my friends played. Hope this helps!
