Hey everyone, I really appreciate all of the feedback! It was great to hear a lot of real opinions, suggestions, and information about both systems. It was a lot of reading last night / this morning to catch up on everything, but I feel WAY more informed than before.
I made this post to get some information to help me make a good decision on a new console and I think with all of your help it did. Didn't make this to troll/start a huge debate on here, but I guess it comes with the territory on a forum where people are passionate about their gaming systems.
I made a random decision yesterday and pre-ordered the TTK PS4. I have enough store credit from previous trade ins at GameStop to make it affordable. Also will be trading in my 360 for an additional $100 off. So it looks like I will be starting from scratch, but I have enough friends on the PS+ network to make it fun.
Again, I really appreciate all of the feedback/suggestions/opinions from you guys. It was a great read and I think I learned all I needed to make the right decision for myself.
Also, thanks for all of the congratulations on me becoming a dad. Although I am still about 6 months out from having that new little one in my arms, I couldn't be more excited about it.
Thanks again, guardians.

I've had a Xbox 360 for a few years now and most of my friends either have a Xbox One or a PS4 (it's about a 50/50 split). I recently found out that I am going to be a dad (due late January 2016) and because of this and all of the future late nights that come with that in my future, I got permission from the wife to upgrade, so help me figure out what to get.
Since I am already a Microsoft user, obviously going with the Xbox One seems like the easiest one to upgrade to, but I'm open to suggestions.
For the Xbox, I am already familiar with the Xbox Live stuff and I'm already paying the yearly online fee, no need to cancel service etc.
If I upgrade to the Xbox One, do I need to start over with new characters or would my character carry over?
Is the Xbox One backwards compatible with my current 360 games (Destiny, Halo Series, GTA5) or do I have to buy new games no matter what?
Any other benefits to sticking with Microsoft?
As for the PS4, I don't have too much knowledge about this system. I've heard it's got better graphics, but I've also heard the online servers are unreliable leaving you unable to play often? Is it worth it? What other reasons make it worth switching?

Also ps4 is able yo stream ps3 games so the backwords thing dont matter is for certain games not every game and not alot of good games either
-
Don't be dumb get a pc.
-
Xbox.. Psn goes down too much.
-
I would get xbox one. I'm also a 360/xbone user and my friend has a PS4. I do not like the ps4 interface and it always acts screwy when I'm at his house. Microsoft hands down.
-
You can give GameStop your 360 for an $150 discount off the One until July 11
-
Depends, do you plan on still using your 360? If so, get a one so you don't have to pay for 2 subscriptions. Also look at the exclusive GAMES for each console and see which ones outweigh the others. Plus think about the controllers (if you like the feel of them or not)
-
Your character carries over
-
It sounds like you might not have the most time in the world. Because of this, i would suggest getting xbox one, since you wont gave to grind all the way, just to be in the same spot as your old xbox account.

Microsoft has better networking, Sony has better hardware. So if you're looking to play on a shitty console with great connectivity XBone is the way to go. If you want to play on a great console where the servers are constantly down, or under maintenance, PSN is the path you should choose. I have both consoles and I much prefer the PS4. Better games imo, controller has a better feel, and the community is slightly more mature. It's all personal preference honestly.

Xbox one from a all around standpoint. If you want a new consol just for destiny get a ps4 because it has exclusive content. But here is why i would go with xbox one in a heartbeat. 1.Games with gold i know playstation has something like this but i will tell you whatbi know. On my xbox i get 2 free games a month with 4-6 games 40-60% off. You also earn credit twards money when you hook up your account to bing rewards so i get $5 a month. 2. Exclusive content. in MY OPINION playstation has no games i want. If you like their exclusives great all the power to you. I would rather play halo and all the great exclusives that come with it. 3. Backwards compatability This is something only xbox will have as of now. This means you can play all your old 360 games on it but thats not all. You can actually play with your friend who is playing on a 360 too. This is a HUGE factor in my opinion. 4.Price the xbox one is currently being sold for $350 with a game and a free live trial included. Microsoft i currently doing a trade in deal with many stores. For instance i traded in my 360 (this works for a ps3 too) and got $175 for it. So i basicly got a xbox one for $175 and it will be able to play 360 games.

Hehehehe, you think you'll be playing games when you're pulling late nights with a newborn. Hehehehehe. But really, I went from 360 to Xbox One, and most of my friends have done the same, so it was an easy choice. Plus I'm a big Halo fan. Its easy keeping the same friends list and services. Good luck with the newborn. Fatherhood is a wild ride.

with X1 everything will carry over and there will be backwards compatibility but not with every single game as for both consoles you mainly want to think about what are most of your friends playing on what control do you like the most, this is down to your own opinion so don't let idiots around here try selling one control as fact PS4 controls they are a bit smaller and have a nice little sensor bar with it and a light that changes color with certain games, batterys don't normally last that long so you may spend a lot of time with a cable in but you can open the control up to install better ones Xbox controls are larger, they have a built in battery pack so no lump and it can be easily opened via a door to change batterys so no need for that cable PS4 has better graphics and fun features like share play and can record longer videos than X1, X1 is more about multimedia, you can do two things at once on the same screen exclusives, depends on what you like for which one has more for you, exclusive games (infamous, Halo), exclusive, timed exclusive content (Destiny, Fallout 4) problems PS4 tends to get more down time than X1 both can get random game crashes with X1 sometimes just locking up X1 can get a problem that apparently came in with an update where the control randomly disconnects for about a second if the PS4s power gets cut before it fully turns off it has to go about a check next time it is on party random disconnects/nat type issue on both

I feel Xbox is a more secure network. Plus your characters transfer. Not Sure if the dlc's do... Ps4 has exclusives, if that is enough to start over. I have no regrets with the Xbox 1. I also prefer the controller ten fold. Try a ps4 controller before you decide.

Ps4. Last of Us Remastered.
-
Well if you main game to play is destiny ps4 is better for you because destiny has more content and has better exclusive remember Street fighter v is not coming to Xbox. If you like Xbox well go with Xbox I can't think in something good from Xbox one as a gamer

PS4 FF7.
-
Xbox one Backwards comp coming to xbone this holidays. You don't have to spend on membership until yours expire. Your destiny characters do carry on. And because blam it its better =)
-
Came from 360 to ps4 and have zero regrets. As your friend split is equal that makes my advice on that useless. Therefore my advice now would be consider how you use your console entertainment, go for xbox1, gaming with the oddbit ofnetflix ps4. If you don't want to start over stick with xbox your stuff will carry over, just gotta buy thegames etc again apparently
-
Xbox one, because you have a 360 so you keep your characters, soon it will be backwards compatible as well
-
Edited by sWozzAres: 7/9/2015 8:57:19 PMI play Destiny on PS4 and XB1, the differences are that PS4 has more content and exclusives, the user interface is slicker and faster, loading times in game are faster and the server connections are more reliable (on XB1 I get an errors twice a day, on PS4 it's once per week). PS4 graphics are slightly better with effects and shadows but since Destiny is a cross platform game you wouldn't expect much difference. PS4 controllers are also better in that they are higher quality although the new XBOX Elite controller looks good.

I actually play on both XB1 and PS4. In all honesty, the look of the game is the same BUT the sound you get when using the PS Gold wireless headset on PS4 is simply amazing compared to XB1. It took me a while to get used to the controller on PS4 but now is not much of an issue. The biggest problem on PS4 is there is NO "Quick" way to find and join a group for a Raid or Nightfall. It has taken me a while to build a friends list as compared to XB1. Good luck and Congrats and the new addition to your family.
-
tl;dr... i have both, exactly the same besides exclusives. get which ever console your friends (if you have any :P) are on, or else get whichever console has the exclusives you prefer.
-
Listen, I'm a xbox one guy and I'm just gonna say, if you has a 360 get an xbox one because it will be a better fit for what you've known. If you'd of had a ps3 I would have said go ahead get a ps4. And I had both a ps3 and a xbox 360 and I went with an xbox one becuase I thought it looked better.
-
Up to you. I am in the same boat but I am 14 so I have no say.
-
Buy the one you have the most friends to play with on.
