I mean please show me somewhere in Lore when the Hunters protected the City? And telling us that Fallen were attacking does not count because they bailed immediately after they told us

Jaren ward has the most detailed lore of any guardian in the grimoire.

Yes, but I don't remember hearing him have anything to do with protecting the city. He walked into a city, raised a kid like his own kind of, shot a corrupt mayor, and went on a hunt for Yor. But he didn't protect the city and most of those things were for his gain
