Toland, the Shattered
This is a post I've wanted to make since the original Dark Guardians group. Since I first started playing I was interested in a name I occasionally saw. Toland, the Shattered. He now acts as my character’s hero of sorts. He is a Dark Guardian within the lore of Destiny!
In summary. He was a warlock who studied the Darkness. Eventually, he was thought to have gone insane. The city exiled him, thinking him to be raving and corrupted by the Darkness. In his exile we studied the Hive very closely and was fascinated by them. He created the weapon that is called “Bad Juju.” The weapon hungers for both Light and Darkness; so Toland used his knowledge of the Darkness or the Hive to create this devious weapon. Due to his expertise on the Hive and their magic he was contacted by Eriana-3 and asked to join a group of six guardians on a quest to kill Crota. This, was the end of Toland. As far as we know…
He’s the epitome of what we are, and what we represent. The bravery to delve where other guardians dare not stride, and the tenacity to push against the oncoming wave of adversity. Be it from our foes, or supposed allies. Bring the legend of Toland with you into combat, remember that there are others like us.

It is said that Toland died while attempting to defeat Crota, and the only survivor was Eris. However, I have a feeling that he actually didn't. Maybe it looked as though he had died, and everyone including Eris thought he was dead, but he had an obsession with how the Deathsinger's liturgy works. He said that the hive survive by making themselves a part of the song, so that they will never die because they are death. Perhaps from Toland's extensive studies, he learned how to make himself part of the song, even if his body gets destroyed in the process. I'll bet some form of him still lives on, floating in the shadows. And I also think he's the voice in the E3 Taken King trailer.

Toland saved Eris. That green thing she holds was given to her by Toland so the hive would think of her as one of their own. Why couldn't he just of saved himself everyone would rather him be alive rather than that smelly blind Eris.

3 RepliesToland is also attributed with the Shadow Price auto rifle, and while this is pure speculation, the similarities between the Bad Juju and the Thorn/Nechrochasm indicate that the Juju is Toland's attempt to create a hive "Weapon of Sorrow" for what reason though, is a mystery.
