(2.0 Update) Hunter Knife Replica Project - Real Steel - No Plastic Here...

2.0.1 Update! - some new pics I decided to make the 2.0 version out of much heavier steel. The 1/4" thick 1.0 version just seemed too lightweight compared to the images and specs for the in game weapon. So... I went for a full 3/8" thick plate steel to start with. I am VERY happy with the look at feel of the thicker knife. It has a greater presence in person and when you hand it to someone they say... holy crap! It weighs 2lbs 5oz... a monster. While it is just a prop and the edge is not sharp, I hesitate to consider the damage this thing would do. I suspect a strong arm could put it right through a car door. Next I need to make a cool display stand for it. Added 2/12/15 - Shadowboxed Knife for my lil bro - http://s15.postimg.org/95ypaqf2j/SHADOWBOX.jpg
So I had decided I was going to make a Hunter's Knife. No, not plastic, resin or MDF... Steel... I went with 1/4" Cold Rolled Steel but I think I want to go 5/16. Its a little over 16" long. I scaled it back a tiny bit but it is still HUGE. The actual specs look like 7/16 but that is INSANE. Hole in the blade and the last one in the handle are a bit too big and I am still tinkering with finish ideas. I kinda rushed it out of the shop as it was getting cold and late. Icon is a water transfer decal with matte clear over it. It weighs in a 1LB 9oz and actually feels great in the hand. It would do some serious damage and break some bones as a fighting knife and you certainly would not want someone to throw it at you. :P First Pic: http://s29.postimg.org/sfwwmzxbp/HUNTER_KNIFE_PROTO_1.gif Another Pic: http://s18.postimg.org/6begp96m1/HUNTER_KNIFE_PROTO_2.gif Pic For Scale: http://s17.postimg.org/lxj48mrrj/HUNTER_KNIFE_PROTO_SCALE.gif I feel very in touch with my inner hunter when I hold it. :) What do you think?
EDIT: Here are two crappy in process camera phone pics.... I cant believe anyone said this was not my work... :P http://s9.postimg.org/hqscmocdb/IN_PROCESS_1.gif http://s23.postimg.org/y4svdqrbv/IN_PROCESS_2.gif

Edit #2: Ok that does it. I am making another with some improvements to the proto. Stand by! Thanks again for all the kind words, It is really nice to feel like there is a community here buried in the rubble...

Edit - 1/16 - Shop Day! - I will be posting process pics on my twitter feed - @DocSoCal - More forum pics when I am back at my PC.

Edit - 1/19 - 2.0 Pictures later this morning!

Edit - 1/20 - 2.0 pics are up!

• Nice work, I've been thinking about making one myself. I made a tanto tipped sword at work the other day that has a hive feel to it and some knives to match. Hand forged the knives out of old railroad spikes. I'll try and get some pictures posted on here. I feel your pain too; a 5 lb hammer, anvil and hot metal can wreak havoc on human hands
