2.0.1 Update! - some new pics
I decided to make the 2.0 version out of much heavier steel. The 1/4" thick 1.0 version just seemed too lightweight compared to the images and specs for the in game weapon. So... I went for a full 3/8" thick plate steel to start with.
I am VERY happy with the look at feel of the thicker knife. It has a greater presence in person and when you hand it to someone they say... holy crap! It weighs 2lbs 5oz... a monster. While it is just a prop and the edge is not sharp, I hesitate to consider the damage this thing would do. I suspect a strong arm could put it right through a car door.
Next I need to make a cool display stand for it.
So I had decided I was going to make a Hunter's Knife.
No, not plastic, resin or MDF...
Steel...
I went with 1/4" Cold Rolled Steel but I think I want to go 5/16. Its a little over 16" long. I scaled it back a tiny bit but it is still HUGE. The actual specs look like 7/16 but that is INSANE.
Hole in the blade and the last one in the handle are a bit too big and I am still tinkering with finish ideas. I kinda rushed it out of the shop as it was getting cold and late. Icon is a water transfer decal with matte clear over it.
It weighs in a 1LB 9oz and actually feels great in the hand. It would do some serious damage and break some bones as a fighting knife and you certainly would not want someone to throw it at you. :P

Edited by GrossToastie: 5/28/2015 3:29:14 PM3/8 inch thick? That is fine for a prop but if you ever want to make a functional one you should stick with 1/4 inch max. It might actually be better to go down to 3/16. This is unless you want the knife to specialize as an entry tool, of course. :) Anyways, all sarcasm aside, the knife you want to go for is a combat knife and bigger is not always better in that field. The thickness of the blade would cause it to be too cumbersome and would actually create quite a bit of resistance if you went to stab through something. A more streamlined blade would create faster attacks and historically speaking (this mostly from Medieval martial arts) whoever lands the first blow wins the fight. Anywho, this is my two cents. You don't have to listen to anything I say and I am by no means saying you don't know what you're doing but I'm just throwing out a little bit of advice. You have a good life, sir. Edit: I apologize if it sounded like I was critiquing your work and pointing out flaws or anything of that nature. You definitely did some excellent work, mate.
