PoE: Similar to a raid in principle + Suggested improvements to increase replay value

I mean seriously now, you run around killing trash mobs while taking down bulletsponges that are called "bosses" in each area all in the pursuit of that post-game loot… Holy shit PoE is confirmed to be the exact same as a raid just against multiple races in an arena based setting… who would have thought OK, going to stop being a facetious bastard, read the edits (mainly edit 2) before commenting. [b]Edit 1:[/b] Ok let me say this now. I'm not being pro-PoE, I haven't played it, but from what has been show it follows the same principles of kill these enemies while completing this small objective. Now this doesn't make it a raid, but it does make it very similar in style. You need to fight your way through hordes of mobs to reach a final boss. Just in PoE it's stylized as almost a sport in a way. [b]Edit 2:[/b] So people have made good points about the learning curve being an integral part of the game that makes the activity interesting, so I got to think how a learning curve could be added to PoE that would also improve on its replay value while making it a comepletly unique activity in Destiny. This is what I came up with; - Fireteam of 6 split into two teams of 3 - Each team has to fight through a different section of PoE and in each area one team has to complete an objective that will help the other team until they meet in the final room to face the final boss. - The order of the rooms change each run and the teams and the objectives change from one run to another That would require a learning curve to get to know each objective as well as replay value of each run never being the same.

  • I'm cautiously optimistic about HoW in general. Today's PoE reveal didn't reveal much besides that screaming fanboy being obnoxious...I really would've like them to go a bit more in depth like they did with ToO and the general reveal...I'm holding my judgment until I play it. If I feel it's a step in the right direction and I get a raid before "comet" chances are I'll buy "comet".

      • Most possibly accurate description I've heard is fun, intense, but not deep like a raid. At lvl 35 we dont know yet, but likely just more sponge which is disappointing. I'd love to see fewer enemies that are just smarter, like Gold Elites used to be.

        • I've yet to see the full stream archive from Bungie, but I did watch the Planet Destiny game play of it, and it looks interesting. Each level of difficulty seems to have a different setup to it from what they experienced. Persnally, I was hoping for a procedural type encounter, where the arenas are different each time you play, but oh well.

              • I think its more of a raid equivalent honestly. Not complaining. I'm just glad there's a PvE counter to Trials of Osiris. I don't know why some people were denying it was hoard mode though. Maybe they don't know what hoard mode is?

                • This is why Prison of Elders will have good replay value outside of just getting loot. Raids are fun every once in a while, but they shouldn't be grinded because it is more of a chore than fun. The experience of the Raid never changes. The aspects that make them so much fun at first, die off because outside those aspects, it's incredibly easy. Prison of Elders seems to be more difficult than any raid even tho it won't be as complex as either Raid, but it looks to require skill and teamwork to complete something both Raids lack at most parts.

                • Oh I said back when they revealed no raid activity that this WAS the raid they were gonna give us. They just saw this wasn't a raid so they renamed it and the fanbois went crazy with "New Activity!!"

                  • I agree, it has a lot similar to the Raids and yet, it lacks a level of complexity that I was hoping it would have. Better puzzles, finding and discovering, many unexpected things. I was actually hoping for more complex then the raids but doable with a team. One of those things you could solo but you would rather not. I was playing mafia 2 cause it's a free gold download and I have to say, it was fun and it started off really unexpected. [spoiler]Come on, starting in WW2, a game called Mafia 2, it was great.[/spoiler] I was not expected that at all. It's those little things I would really love to see more of in Destiny.
