(1) Correction: Isn't a marathon considered a lot of 40 yard dashes?
(2) Since God, by definition, is eternal, He has no beginning and end (e.g., try counting from 1 to the last number on a number line). Being that the universe needs a cause in order to exist, God is the only logical choice (I even have an explanation why just one). Since He is the creator of time, He is not limited by the time dimension He created; and thus, He has no beginning in time, and the Bible concurs that God is the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity (Isaiah 57:15); therefore, He doesn't have a cause, and that is also why it is stated in Revelation 22:13 that He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
