The Queen says "To the Guardians, offer the riches of our realm as bounty for these traitors."
So, now we're bounty hunters and we have nothing to do with... whatever the main story is. It's not even like we're saving the world(s) from an invading force. In fact, it looks like The Fallen are fighting for their own independence, and we're being hired to push them back into slavery. Remember the first time you visit the Queen, and she has the Fallen under mind control?
Wait, are we the bad guys? Hired muscle, hunting down refugees in search of a home and peace, in exchange for glimmer and guns? How far have we fallen since we first woke up in that junkyard?
Or is it like one of those - Han Solo in Star Wars - kinda things where we're just wandering bounty hunters doing our own thing when all of a sudden we walk into an ancient prophecy, blah blah blah, save the galaxy.
Actually, it would be kind of cool to be a bad guy for a change...
-
We are still good guys. They are traitors. We are serving justice
-
it seens that we will be helping the queen on her quest for revenge against the Fallen
-
Who cares I doubt Bungie even understands the story.
-
Who cares.... No new raid.... SMFH
-
The fallen attacked the reef than the queen decided to enlist them instead of killing them. Then the fallen killed her people, blood must have blood my friend.
-
The Fallen may be running from the Darkness, but they don't act like refugees. They act like pirates, and now it seems that they act like bandits. We Guardians aren't bandits. We aren't pirates. We are privateers. We are mercenaries. We fight for our factions, we fight for the Vanguard, we fight for humanity, we fight for loot and upgrades. We fight for pay and the right to exist (because sometimes you can stand up for your ethics and get paid) The Awoken are our allies, for some of us they are our ancestors. We came to them in a time of need and despite acting like dicks, they did help us. Now they want our help, and they want to pay us? We'll be there. So no, we aren't the bad guys, though we're definitely not 100% moral good guys looking for a diplomatic solution to every problem, but then who expects us to negotiate with Hive or Vex? Only the Fallen seem even slightly open to negotiation, and they renege on those deals!

Edited by MAJOR TAO: 4/13/2015 11:25:28 PMHere's why NONE OF US get to play a bad guy ( or bad girl for that matter ). Guardians do not face the challenge of making moral choices. We've never been asked to think.....about having to spare an enemy's life...out of compassion, mercy, or just to keep them alive for interrogation later. To do that....we'd have to have dialog options.. Whoops. NO DIALOG OPTIONS EXIST ! Likewise, the storyline ( such as it is ) does not require Guardians to confront each other regarding moral choices made. Guardians are followers. We follow orders. Period. Everything we do in the game has been blessed by the Vanguard and we are given free rein and total absolution in using whatever force is necessary to wipe out the invaders. Want to use the Darkness against itself and risk spiritual corruption and physical pollution ? ... go for it. The Speaker doesn't seek to punish you or penalize you in any way....except to voice a few reservations. Want to capture a Hive wizard, or Fallen Baron and use "enhanced interrogation methods" / torture to obtain priceless intelligence ? DENIED !. Only NPC's like Ariana-3 can do that....and we only hear about that third hand. Think the Tower system sucks and want to rebel against the Vanguard and go rogue....WELL YOU CAN'T ! You're down for the hood.... you've been revived....and probably been mind altered to be an obedient little guardian. No get out there and kill some more of the designated enemies ! Other NPC Guardians are out there risking body and soul and making questionable decisions that could lead to victory - or catastrophe, but those decisions are apparently too big, too demanding, and out of reach of players. We can only wonder at the moral choices and life and death decisions that destroyed Toland the Shattered, and left Eris a shuddering, muttering, raving survivor who is both enlightened and transfigured by the Darkness. No one in the game cares if you have an opinion or point of view about the Struggle. No NPC in the game cares that we're lost in the storyline, or cares to give any background ( except Eris ). Although the Factions of New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, the Reef, The NINE, and the Trinary Star Cult are out there....we see no actual disputes, are not asked to take a side, and suffer no consequences for choosing one over another. There is absolutely NO DRAMA, no conflict and everyone is one big happy Tower family. Who could imagine that life in the LAST CITY ON EARTH...would be so peaceful, domestically tranquil and free from Existential Angst ?

The only good fallen is a dead fallen.

Edited by WELSHA08: 4/14/2015 2:58:24 PMThe fallen aren't under mind control, she replaced the Kell of the house of Wolves so they are sworn to protect her, even if she isn't a fallen. They aren't slaves, they are following the rules of their house, the most likely cause for the conflict is that a new Kell has gathered enough followers to mount a challenge on the queen and take control of the house. And as for us helping the queen, we are repaying her for helping us gain access to the black garden. Also it may be in humanity's interest to have control over a portion of the fallen, less of them trying to kill us.
-
She says "open our realm to the guardians..." that's not us as bad guys. It's her letting us hunt down the traitors in her domain.
-
I've felt bad for the fallen the whole game.
-
LOL @ story
-
I wish Bungie had gone with a better story, like a civil war in the House of Wolves. Like between those who are racist and those who chose honor to their rightful Kell, the Queen. This would allow for an easy and reasonable way to allow in sites into the alien cultures, via Wolf loyalists.
-
Well, the riches are probably good and we are bloodthirsty "Defenders of Earth." Sooooooooo.......(Pumps shotgun)
"It's hunting season, men.
-
Did you forget the fallen came to OUR solar system and took part in the great collapse? We can't be the bad guys by killing fallen. Your making them sound human.
-
Did you forget you owe the queen, she cashing in on the favor you owe her time to pay up.
-
Just like borderlands, there are no heros.
-
Bounty hunters
-
Love the story, it's different. So tired of formula workflow stories. Yea we might be the bad guys in this one, that's cool, perhaps we will wake up and change in the future. But we are striving for survival. That means resources, allies, and the queen, although she is shady, is a better ally at this time than the fallen. If we learn more, perhaps it will change, but from what we know today, we back up the lady that help us defeat the Vex end boss.
-
we were never the hero's we are just pawns in a bigger game that we do not yet know the details of.

Edited by Carmine100: 4/14/2015 3:14:02 AMI kill everything in sight screw the travler and the speaker Me and my titan work alone hive fallen or the queen guards get in my way I'll shoot them

The fallen killed citizens of earth during the collapse and now they murdered members of the queens court. I'd say that's motivation enough.

Edited by Vusile: 4/13/2015 9:22:41 PMWe're not the bad guys. Just revived idiots with amnesia and who follow orders--whosever they may be. But in all seriousness, Fallen attack humanity for no reason. They are victims in this DLC, but got coming what they deserve. They probably attacked the Awoken first and elicited an ass whooping. And we are just returning the favor to the Queen. Cause politics.
The bad guy is the brother
No, 1: they are traitors 2: they are fallen 3: they invaded the Reef not for good reason
