I have a hard time believing that it's possible for anyone to complete this Nightfall without hiding under the stairs or using some other cheese that I'm not aware of.
If you did it, post here and explain how.
I probably won't believe you anyway, but if you really did it, I'm impressed!
edit: The actual question is, did you do it without any kind of cheese whatsoever.
So, if you hid under the stairs or on top of the lights or did anything else other than face him straight up, your answer should be "NO".
next edit: I changed the title so people might stop misunderstanding the point of the question.
I think the answer is about 50/50, cheese/no-cheese.
The answer to no-cheese seems to be Titan bubble, weapons of light and gyllenhoorns, lots and lots of gajyllenhoorns.
I've done it that way on normal, but this time there were a ton more (and tougher) enemies in the room before Valus spawned.
The shields on the psions were ridiculous.
Hiding under the stairs made it a problem to use the gyllenhoorn but hunter invisibility helped a bit.
I'll try it again next time w/ a Titan.
Good thread. Thanks!
final edit: I guess different people have different definitions of "cheese".
IMO, hiding in a spot where you are enclosed on all sides and the enemy can't get to you at all (as long as you stand in the right spot), but you can still hit them, is "cheesy", meaning "cheap".
NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.
Hey, I think using a fire team full of gajigglyhorns is kinda cheesy too, but whatever works.
I'm not judging anyone for playing cheesy - I do it all the time.
I guess what I mean by cheese is a strategy (legit or not) that takes most/all of the intended challenge and risk out of a task.
Sometimes, especially when it's a strike I've done a million times, I don't care about the challenge, I just want to get it done, so I do it the cheesiest way possible.
Other times the challenge and difficulty are what makes it fun.
In my opinion, it's your game and you can play it however you'd like - as long as it doesn't get you banned or piss off the people you're playing with (too much).

How is under the stairs a cheese? I would honestly like to know. I feel it is tactical. If taking cover in the most defensible spot available is a cheese, then everyone cheeses crucible at all times.
-
Myself and two friends all did it in one go on all our characters. We just switched so we always had a titan with weapons of light. We all used a synth before we stepped into his room then we ran to the top of the left platform, the titan popped the bubble and we unloaded with weaponized giggity horns and finished him off with black hammers before he stepped to the other side of the room. Never had to restart.

Bubble Titan, helm of saint 14. Word of Crota/Ice Breaker/Jolders Hammer (Solar) Word will 3 shot a Psion and Ice Breaker does the rest of the heavy lifting with juggler on and of course helm is there because of light switch. Team of 32's took us about 25 minutes. No ramp required.

I solo'd it with my hunter and the only "cheese" I used was to camo past the room before the lieutenants and the room before valus. I don't have Ghorn. I just have enough patience to stay by the front door and use the stacked boxes for cover and only poke out when ice breaker is charged and occasionally use a heavy synth. It's slow and tedious but in my opinion this is the safest and easiest nightfall. Without a burn you always have enough time to get safe if you stay near cover. Loadout: Word of Crota (for psions); Ice Breaker; Hunger of Crota

Titan bubbles and your good to go Helm 14 shotties and you are good Don't use super on boss but minions to keep bubbles going Psion shields are just void 2 shots from the WOC and they are gone then 2 headshots for the majors and they are done The problem you have is you play with no strategy just run in and gun I only do the stairs with no strategy people

So when did using cover become cheese?

Edited by J M A X 3four: 4/9/2015 1:33:57 AMAre you able to come up with your own post? This is a complete mimic of a previous post Edit: nm same post but you changed your words. Tricky tricky

Those spots aren't really even cheesing, just good strategy.
-
I solo evert nightfall so cheese it is. My options are slim...
-
Of course and I even soloed it, how is it so hard to not cheese it?
-
Yes. 3 people. Weapons of light. Maxed ghorn. Death
-
How do you even cheese a nightfall
-
Yes, 3 defender bubbles with armor or blessing, and lots of shotguns.
-
I always used to tough out this Nightfall, on the right hand balcony. That is why I dislike this strike so much. It was not until a couple of Nightfalls later, that I first saw someone use that corner. I cheesed it this week, but if I could find a guardian, willing to stand next to me, I would stand on the right once more.
-
I had Chuck Norris jump into our game and roundhouse kick him. It was all over before it even began. He told us "stay in school and don't do drugs" then left.

Hiding under stairs isn't a cheese... It's a tactic and a hiding spot
-
Under the ramp, behind the metal crates, this cheese that every body refers too is actually called cover. In fact, that whole area is a bunker, so is the one on the opposite side of the room. The light fixtures, I don't know if that is a design mechanic, but they function like bunkers too. Either way, if you're not taking cover, you're just applying for a full membership into the blue falcon organization. Which, going by the behavior of 1337 32's around here, maybe is the premiere organization of choice... Actual cheese would be like that video posted here the other day, where you go under the complex and move along to roof top. Out there you are untouchable. Whatever floats your boat though.

Is hiding under the stairs really a cheese? I don't think so
-
3 ghorns, weapons of light, heavy ammo synth. First 21 ghorn rockets brought him well below half. Quick heavy ammo in safety of bubble - reload, some fancy dodging and a few ghorns at the adds then finish mcdickface off
-
Do you meen solo or with a group? With a group i was lucky and always found a titan at lfg, he put his bubble oposite side of the room and focused on killing adds me and the other guy just shot rockets. When he starts walking just switch sidea
-
Bubbles. Get close to a phalanx and let it open up to melee you and then shotgun it for precision. FV is a one shot if you shoot one with a primary to 7/8 of their health. Have two people focus on killing adds and one always on Valus and it's easy.

Edited by SkeletalSkeletor: 4/9/2015 1:10:47 AMI found a new cheese to beat rocket mcdickface: As soon as you enter mcdickface's room, go on the upper platform, and jump into the vent. Look outside the entrance, and jump on the ledge right up above some pipes.jump done on to the pipes, and run across them as you please. Once you are up there, you will not be able to get down, and you must crouch to get to the father side of the arena. ***Important:*** I highly recommend doing this as fast as possible. It is very hard to do it when mcdickface is out. Also, I recommend using glide/Triple or double jump over blink. Blink is harder to aim with, and the wall infront of the ledge will knock you off with you don't do it at the perfect angle.
Hope you have good luck beating dick face this week!
-
Did he get a nerf because it seemed like his health went down a lot faster then usual
-
Everyone be honest, if you were playing alone, you were under the stairs
-
Stay at the entrance, take cover behind the two barriers. Shoot, wait for him to come your way and move to opposite side repeat. Course if you have weapons of light barrier it helps. Titan strong all day long!!
