I have a hard time believing that it's possible for anyone to complete this Nightfall without hiding under the stairs or using some other cheese that I'm not aware of.
If you did it, post here and explain how.
I probably won't believe you anyway, but if you really did it, I'm impressed!
edit: The actual question is, did you do it without any kind of cheese whatsoever.
So, if you hid under the stairs or on top of the lights or did anything else other than face him straight up, your answer should be "NO".
next edit: I changed the title so people might stop misunderstanding the point of the question.
I think the answer is about 50/50, cheese/no-cheese.
The answer to no-cheese seems to be Titan bubble, weapons of light and gyllenhoorns, lots and lots of gajyllenhoorns.
I've done it that way on normal, but this time there were a ton more (and tougher) enemies in the room before Valus spawned.
The shields on the psions were ridiculous.
Hiding under the stairs made it a problem to use the gyllenhoorn but hunter invisibility helped a bit.
I'll try it again next time w/ a Titan.
Good thread. Thanks!
final edit: I guess different people have different definitions of "cheese".
IMO, hiding in a spot where you are enclosed on all sides and the enemy can't get to you at all (as long as you stand in the right spot), but you can still hit them, is "cheesy", meaning "cheap".
NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.
Hey, I think using a fire team full of gajigglyhorns is kinda cheesy too, but whatever works.
I'm not judging anyone for playing cheesy - I do it all the time.
I guess what I mean by cheese is a strategy (legit or not) that takes most/all of the intended challenge and risk out of a task.
Sometimes, especially when it's a strike I've done a million times, I don't care about the challenge, I just want to get it done, so I do it the cheesiest way possible.
Other times the challenge and difficulty are what makes it fun.
In my opinion, it's your game and you can play it however you'd like - as long as it doesn't get you banned or piss off the people you're playing with (too much).

It isn't cheesing unless you take advantage of a glitch. Using cover isn't a glitch. You aren't off the map, and you can still get hit and die in every cover spot in this strike. I'd love to see a video of some of these asshats who claim they don't use cover, lol.

The thing that sets you back is the no flinching enemies with shields, takes way too long to take them out so id rather take cheap shots than deal with them

Edited by KentuckY_Jelly: 4/9/2015 12:50:11 PM2 titans and a hunter. Both titans using weapons of light and gjallahorns, hunter using ice breaker. Bubble deployment staggered, took no time at all. Hiding under the platform isnt cheesing. On the lamps is more of a cheese but even that isnt cheesing as you still can take damage.

Bubble, chest armour for two grenades (spike grenade), Swordbreaker, Gjallarhorn, and a trusty primary. We set all three on the top ramp on right side (as you first fave Valus). Just pay VERY close attention to the middle door beside you. Good chance to catch all 3 Psion/Phalanx at the door with a grenade or two and finish with Swordbreaker. Most of the time we could clean those adds before they spread out, and we seemed to get the most Psions from that door. Most Plalanx seem to jump to center and the regular Cabal would come up, be easier to deal with. Still had tons of rez's but we chalked up 3 wins about 35-40min per run
-
Not even going to bother doing this weeks lol.
-
Hiding under the stairs isn't a cheese. A, and B they lowered his health by a third and it's a lot easier to kill him now. Whoever has to cheese this then you suck. To everyone that thinks hiding under the stairs is a cheese... you are a very poor and sad mistaken person. It's a hiding spot, NOT A CHEESE.

Weapons of light + 14 Gjallarhorns per person

Edited by Torus: 4/9/2015 12:48:56 PMHiding under the stairs is not a cheese it is simply using the environment to your advantage.
-
Haven't done it yet. I'll probably hop on and do it in about 20 minutes. Of course I'm going to exploit the fuck out of it. Why would I waste my time and effort on something that could be avoided?
-
Lol it's not that hard he is probably one of the easiest boss battles. Just takes a while to kill him
-
Edited by SerLohengrin: 4/9/2015 12:47:51 PMRewards not worth it. Cheesed.
-
At the front of the room, there is that small wall. Use that for cover and attack when he is across the room. When he crosses sides, retreat to behind the boxes where you come in.
-
There's a cheese? Wtf
-
Post a vid of u beating it without hiding under the stairs and without popping weapons of light at the beginning of the fight and blasting him with 42 gallys
-
Hide behind barriers at the side where you enter, then when he comes to that side rotate onto the sides, then back when he moves.
-
is taking cover cheesing?
-
Hiding isn't cheesing its strategy. Cheesing is glitching out of the map and sniping with an AP rifle.
-
I don't consider hiding under stairs as a form of cheesing. Cheesing, in my mind at least, means completing the activity by a means of doing something that wasn't meant to be done that way. Hiding under the stairs? It's a pretty large area. Kind've like we were meant to go there if we decided. I don't think at all that hiding under the stairs is cheesing. It's totally different than clutching into the ceiling or any other cheesing way.
-
It's easy with 2 to 3 gallys on your team. Make sure everyone has full rockets and a synth on hand then get a titan to pop a weapons of light bubble on the side you go in as soon as the door closes behind valus everyone emptys their rockets into him from the bubble, synth and repeat. Takes about between 20-30 seconds that way.

Edited by OutLaw49x: 4/9/2015 12:42:58 PMWhy would using a barrier in the game setting be cheesing on this strike? Hiding under the stairs on 1 side or the boxes on the other? Hopping and bopping around like a retarded bunny is more cheese than using the duck and cover when OH BTW bullets and rockets are steady flying. LMFAO. CMON MAN!
-
Using the map to give you cover isn't cheesing blnt
-
No cheesing we hid under cover under the ramp, behind crates.
-
I'm not going to bother doing it so......no?
-
It's not a cheese, it's just a hiding spot
-
I have done it with a Hunter and a Warlock. Easier with the Hunter, because I could run through the first part, whilst being invisible. Used Ice breaker / LDR 5001(Void) to clear the 3 Lieutenants, but then hid behind the boxes as you enter the room with Valus. Moved and sniped him from there. If this is a "Cheese" then so be it. Took about 1.5 hours of painstaking shooting.

I mean, I popped into the hidey spot every once in awhile to pop a synth or change my guns, but I mostly just stood up top left.
