Were you able to do this week's N.F. w/out cheesing?
I have a hard time believing that it's possible for anyone to complete this Nightfall without hiding under the stairs or using some other cheese that I'm not aware of.
If you did it, post here and explain how.
I probably won't believe you anyway, but if you really did it, I'm impressed!
edit: The actual question is, did you do it without any kind of cheese whatsoever.
So, if you hid under the stairs or on top of the lights or did anything else other than face him straight up, your answer should be "NO".
next edit: I changed the title so people might stop misunderstanding the point of the question.
I think the answer is about 50/50, cheese/no-cheese.
The answer to no-cheese seems to be Titan bubble, weapons of light and gyllenhoorns, lots and lots of gajyllenhoorns.
I've done it that way on normal, but this time there were a ton more (and tougher) enemies in the room before Valus spawned.
The shields on the psions were ridiculous.
Hiding under the stairs made it a problem to use the gyllenhoorn but hunter invisibility helped a bit.
I'll try it again next time w/ a Titan.

final edit: I guess different people have different definitions of "cheese".
IMO, hiding in a spot where you are enclosed on all sides and the enemy can't get to you at all (as long as you stand in the right spot), but you can still hit them, is "cheesy", meaning "cheap".
NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.
Hey, I think using a fire team full of gajigglyhorns is kinda cheesy too, but whatever works.
I'm not judging anyone for playing cheesy - I do it all the time.
I guess what I mean by cheese is a strategy (legit or not) that takes most/all of the intended challenge and risk out of a task.
Sometimes, especially when it's a strike I've done a million times, I don't care about the challenge, I just want to get it done, so I do it the cheesiest way possible.
Other times the challenge and difficulty are what makes it fun.
In my opinion, it's your game and you can play it however you'd like - as long as it doesn't get you banned or piss off the people you're playing with (too much).

My friend and I stood across the arena and fires 28 Gjallarhorn rockets into Rockets McDickface. Of course, there are those that would try to argue that this is somehow "cheese" (not sure how...), but as far as I am concerned, the boss was killed and I got loot. That's all that honestly matters in the end anyway.

I could do it out in the open tbh but I do Nightfalls for the rewards, not the challenge.

I hide behind a group of boxes as soon as you entet his lair. Just pop in and out with ghally.

I did it legit on one this week. "CHEESED" on two. The legit one, when entering valus arena, I hung back at the ramp with the shield. I hung out there till he rotated. Used the left side 'non psion side' to switch over. Used that large cube on the 2nd level as my cover and used mida to be sure no cabal snuck up from behind on me. Took a good long while but got it done. Trickiest part is when rockets mcdickface is in his free roam mode. Too much running around to consistently get hits on him.

1 ReplyI wouldn't call it cheesing though, the crota bridge using warlock self erect, that's cheesing. But hiding in a corner, where you can still die, that's not cheesing. If anything it's not very brave, buts that's about it...

Once they reduce his health, then maybe I will attempt him "legit." He just has way to much life for a strike boss.

If it were some form of cheese all the enemies would despawn or something. For that simple fact I'm going to answer yes I was able to do this weeks nightfall without any cheesing. Another simple test to see if this is a cheese. Ask yourself has Bungie patched it yet? The answer is no!!! Bungie are pretty damn quick at patching actual cheese spots and tactics (not all but most). The fact that they have never patched or mentioned this as a cheese goes to show it is not a cheese.

Oh ok. So in order to not cheese, I have to stand in the middle of the room with his rockets, machine gun, and adds all killing me. Got it. Weapons of light does not affect rocket launchers.

I don't think using features of the room cheesing. So if someone solos the abyss with a warlock or titan by jumping on the rocks at each lamp, is that cheesing? Using terrain and in game obstacles is just part of the game. Anyone who has played long enough knows that if bungie didn't want you on the lamp, they would have patched it by now. They blocked getting under the platform on the archon priest. So if using the environment to your advantage is a cheese, bungie spent way too much time designing levels because they could have just made everything one big open area.

I always go up on lamp on ceiling. Just use icebreaker. Pretty easy even with no burn. And psions are easy when you use word of crota as your primary.

7 RepliesMy buddy is going to post a video in the next couple of days about how ROCKET MC DICK FACE met 3 Gally's and a Weapons of light Bubble during the NF. Literally took 30 seconds with 21 rockets fired from the Weapons of light bubble. Once it's out I will make sure to post here.

Taking cover is how you are suppose to play the nightfall. Of course they meant for you to be able to take cover

Hide behind the crate new the entrance and shoot through the little gap in the top left corner of it. if Valus shoots rockets then move forward and hide right in front of the crate then step back and resume shooting. FYI, Icebreaker is to be used as a primary weapon. If you do it correct, with 2 man he should be down in about 5-6 minutes. Doing my third one tonight.

I'm Solo. Even as a Titan, I'm not going to fight face-to face with a giant rocket launching Dinosaur that can absorb more rockets and bullets than the rest of the enemies on the map combined. No, I'd rather use the path provide to me by Bungie, and stay out of reach and shoot that sucker in the face with an IB every once in a while. It takes time, but it gets the job done.

5 RepliesThe game is out for a few months now, and if bungie didnt do anything until now maybe its because they dont consider it a glitch. ;-) Is taking advantage of the map, and you should start to use your brain cells and think before say its cheese.

Players considering everything a cheese if it doesn't involve you standing in front of the boss the entire time. If these were cheeses Bungie would of been patched them but they don't. Because it's there for a reason. As long as you don't glitch thru a wall than its not a cheese.
