I have a hard time believing that it's possible for anyone to complete this Nightfall without hiding under the stairs or using some other cheese that I'm not aware of.
If you did it, post here and explain how.
I probably won't believe you anyway, but if you really did it, I'm impressed!
edit: The actual question is, did you do it without any kind of cheese whatsoever.
So, if you hid under the stairs or on top of the lights or did anything else other than face him straight up, your answer should be "NO".
next edit: I changed the title so people might stop misunderstanding the point of the question.
I think the answer is about 50/50, cheese/no-cheese.
The answer to no-cheese seems to be Titan bubble, weapons of light and gyllenhoorns, lots and lots of gajyllenhoorns.
I've done it that way on normal, but this time there were a ton more (and tougher) enemies in the room before Valus spawned.
The shields on the psions were ridiculous.
Hiding under the stairs made it a problem to use the gyllenhoorn but hunter invisibility helped a bit.
I'll try it again next time w/ a Titan.
Good thread. Thanks!
final edit: I guess different people have different definitions of "cheese".
IMO, hiding in a spot where you are enclosed on all sides and the enemy can't get to you at all (as long as you stand in the right spot), but you can still hit them, is "cheesy", meaning "cheap".
NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.
Hey, I think using a fire team full of gajigglyhorns is kinda cheesy too, but whatever works.
I'm not judging anyone for playing cheesy - I do it all the time.
I guess what I mean by cheese is a strategy (legit or not) that takes most/all of the intended challenge and risk out of a task.
Sometimes, especially when it's a strike I've done a million times, I don't care about the challenge, I just want to get it done, so I do it the cheesiest way possible.
Other times the challenge and difficulty are what makes it fun.
In my opinion, it's your game and you can play it however you'd like - as long as it doesn't get you banned or piss off the people you're playing with (too much).

Stay at the entrance, take cover behind the two barriers. Shoot, wait for him to come your way and move to opposite side repeat. Course if you have weapons of light barrier it helps. Titan strong all day long!!
-
I fired 7 Ghorn rockets then proceeded to jump around the map shooting with my Fang. I hid under the stairs for ten seconds in order to heal when I got surrounded then jumped back out.
-
Bubble. Weapons of light. 3 gjallahorns + synth. So it was like 14 rockets + 14 more after 2 used synths. He moves across the map based on his damage. We made him turn back to the other side before he fully crossed the first time and finished him off as he closed in the last 10 percent of his health with primaries and shotguns.
-
Yes....I got on the lamp :/
-
I clipped out of the map
-
Taking cover isn't cheesing

Edited by Kone19ps: 4/8/2015 9:44:51 PMWe stayed on the bottom right. We all had void for psions and would call the waves while we ghorn valus. So we would concentrate everything on the waves each time. Took a long time but worked. The major psions took more coordination than anything else. Major Phalanxes we just rocketed. Not worth them getting close.
-
Yup, went on to the lamp at the top
-
Under the stairs is not cheese.
-
I'm snipe him from the top of the building armor pen rounds are awesome.. Coconut bra gaming have the best tips on nightfalls
-
It's so easy. Get three people with gjallarhorn. Have a Titan with weapons of light. Bye bye valus
-
Na. Light fixture.
-
Uh no. You obviously have to get on the ceiling lamp.
-
I did it without going under the stairs. To everyone who said no, y'all are scrubs. And I'm also very surprised at how unknown the out of the map glitch.

Edited by MrFisherman35: 4/9/2015 12:44:07 AMGotta stay together and have shotguns with all three people. You rotate as valus rotates. There is cover for the rockets on all sides of the map. If you guys use scout rifles and rockets to hurt valus and your shotguns to mess up anyone that comes your way you'll be good. Just have to get a feel for where to group up at and where to go when valus moves. If you play it on normal first you can get used to the strike. If you stay as far away from him as you can as he moves you can use the cover to stay out of harms way. Those metal sheets that come up on each end of the room are good cover from the rockets. I recommend void shotguns as they will one shot the purple dudes. My set up was fang, swordbreaker, gally. I used abyss, icebreaker, hunger for everything up until valus. Hope this helps.

I don't think this qualifies as a cheese but you know that little bit a cover directly across from him? I'll use that as cover to regen health but other than that I don't do this one shot every 5s shit. When he starts to walk over i'll go up to that platform and us a word with helm of st 14 and use rockets so he moves back then when he leaves go back down there

After 3 x weekly and 3 x nightfall I admit I went under the stairs at the front right. On 3 of these occasions I was the last guardian standing and proceeded to kill the boss when he walks over to the front corner, can't hit you, whilst you get precision shots. If sitting in a corner designed by bungie to kill the boss is cheesing then yes I will do it. I have other things I would rather do than start over again.
-
What about in the ceiling? Or above the ceiling out of the map?
-
http://youtu.be/RjyEsrDVmT8 Here is a link of a guy I follow on YouTube doing it in 6:50 no hiding no cheese
-
Edited by Mighty Albatross: 4/8/2015 11:29:04 PMI haven't attempted it yet. Waiting for friends to be on this weekend.
-
We all spammed him with 21 Gjallahorns, his behind the barrier, used a heavy ammo synthesis, and slammed him with another 21 Gjallahorns lol he died at that point.
-
Yep, did it with a LFG and no comms. No wipes - I think we all died once. The hardest part of the raid is the boss area with those -blam!-ing scions that have void shields...
-
At what point does hiding behind objects and popping out to shoot switch from smart to cheese?
-
Odd how something BUNGIE built into the level on purpose is now a cheese
-
Lamp lol

What if you can't play? No as well I guess. But I would go for the stairs. It is a good strategic vantage point. And you need all of those you can get while soloing.
