From what I've seen on here, the tension originally came from VoG. Warlocks were seen as essential, either for cheese ability or for res. Hunters were seen to be not needed, which quickly became unwelcome in many fire teams. That's where I saw most of the hate between them start, and the larger role hunters can play in CE didn't really balance all the rivalry out at all. Too little, too late and all.
