The problem is they're getting belief mixed up with science. People who are strong believers of the word written are given hope. They believe there is really more than just this life. It's when people of the word written take it too seriously, resulting in a clash of their belief and science. Many people don't even know what that story is about...

You can call a belief they held stupid, even if they themselves are wise. And out of them I doubt any believed the creation story literally
