For those who don't believe in evolution...
It really isn't a debate, evolution is a fact. Its not subject to belief or disbelief, its reality. A scientific theory is a proven hypothesis. Evolution is a theory, just like Gravity, and Cells are "just a theory". Micro and Macro evolution are fake concepts invented by creationists in order to debunk it. Clearly, that did not work. Evolution has been directly observed in animals with short lifespans like fruit flies. If you are going to reject direct, peer reviewed observation, yet trust in the bible, or the Qur'an or any holy book. You are creating a double standard. The burden of proof is on us, and it has been met time and time again.

Edit: I'm gonna rewrite this post as I don't like the message it is portraying and some of the feedback it has received. I just don't personally like how it was wriited and the circumstances it was written in check back in a couple hours for the new one.

13 RepliesEvolution is a theory, don't be an ass. I'm an actual scientist, so I think my 2 cents could be a little important on this. I believe that evolution is true but that we haven't figured everything out yet. I think a lot of genesis is symbolic and meant to teach people about pride. And as the those who keep fighting over Catholics not being Christian or some such nonsense... It goes like this--> Christians follow the teachings of Jesus passed down through his disciples. The most important of these disciples was St. Peter who is the founder of the Catholic Church. So, the Catholic Church is the direct continuation of the teachings of Jesus aka they are Christian. Fast forward past a few bad popes and you end up with the Protestant thought which you can categorize many of the modern Christian churches. In other words... BOTH CATHOLICS AND PROTESTANTS ARE CHRISTIAN! To be Christian simply means that you follow the teachings of Christ so any church that does that is technically a Christian church.

1 ReplyFirst off, last time I checked it wasn't actually a fact. It was still a theory. Coming from a Christian standpoint, I honestly don't get the whole evolution vs. creationism fight. Nowhere in the bible does it say "and God created the animals and told them to never ever evolve in their life because that would be horrible." In other words, even though I'm a Christian many parts of evolution and other such theories make complete sense to me.

39 RepliesI'm Christian myself (Catholic to be specific) and I believe Genesis was not to be taken literally. I believe God was behind evolution. I mean, how can God create so many animals that look so similar and not expect us to think they're related somehow? If God was not behind evolution and created every single species in the beginning, wouldn't that make dog and a wolf be just as related as a hippo and a grasshopper?

The sad thing about science is that it never shows itself around people who have to have proof right in their faces. No, we can't prove evolution is a fact, that's why it's a theory, but we have evidence, or what we believe is evidence. If you don't believe it's real evidence that's just you. Micro evolution is the change in allelic frequencies over time (example: B and b code for skin color. Over ten years the allelic freaquencies change from b=.50 B=.50 to B=.75 b=.25 in a population of desert nomads) . Macro evolution is the change in phenotypic variation for a select population of a species(example: genotypes(frequencies) code for phenotypes(individuals or whole numbers). Over 10 years the genotypic variation of the 100 desert nomads change from BB=.25 Bb=.5 bb=.25 or phenotypically BB=25 Bb=50 bb= 25 where B and b are codominant, BB codes for dark skin, Bb codes for tan skin and bb codes for white skin. In 10 years, the 100 individuals change to BB= .70 Bb=.3 bb= 0 or phenotypically BB=70 Bb=30 bb=0. This indicates directional selection for darker skin tone due to the environment.) welcome to population genetics 101. For the sake of the argument, the numbers do not match up for anyone who knows this and want to check this with Hardy-Weinburg. This is merely an example to teach people.

2 RepliesSo, first of all, the evidence that evolution occurred is overwhelming, second, after being lectured over and over and over again in science class, the proper cycle of evolution is that if a species moves to a new environment they need to adapt to, they will change their characteristics accordingly. That's it. Period. End of story. :)
