There was no true cause. He was a Dathomiran ( an innately force sensitive race that sticks to the dark side ) and was chosen at birth by the Dathomiran Night-sisters who gave him to Sidious.

I want to know more about darth maul as the phantom menace really grinds my gears....he died just as soon ad his character showed up....and personally i think he is awesome

I just searched clone wars on Netflix on my phone. Came up with both the series and the animated movie, Darth maul and his brother are a large portion of season 5 I recommend watching the movie first, it takes place chronologically before the series

Search clone wars. It should be six seasons of the animated series. Also a full length feature providing background for the series, the whole series is about anakin and his padawan during the clone wars
