There is another way to get Hydras, if you have a good sniper like Icebreaker.
Go patrol Mars to the Gate that takes you to the black garden. Go to the cliffs opposite the gate. Kill the hydra and the minotaurs. They respawn quickly so just do the same over and over. Using a consumable will get you a lot of glimmer at the same time.

I just went there on patrol and stood right outside the gate, standing at the gate doesn't stop them spawning. Every now and then the gate would open so had to stand back a bit so the screen doesn't go mental from the teleport animation

I didn't like this method, because other Guardians would prevent them from spawning. To fully control the rate of Hydra kills, I did the Black Garden method listed in my post above. To each his own though! Thanks for putting out the info.

I can't find the video I saw originally but I did find this one. I was at the same spot only I moved far away to the ledges opposite the gate and used Icebreaker to snipe them.

Did moving farther away make them come out faster?
